Is this a good pick up for the Ducks? Losing Jones hurt because that body type is not common, especially out west.

The consensus among Husky fans I have read is that they hate any of their players coming to Oregon, but they aren't all that sad to see Taimani go.

Does this surprise you? This is their MO. Anyone who leaves was never really good enough to be at UW anyway.

I never really saw much upside in Rico anyway.

It seems like Oregon is racking up a lot of good-but-not-great defensive lineman. Taimani sort of fits in a room where I don't know if there's a single guy who you say is a lock to play in the NFL for years (Dorlus, hopefully), yet I don't think you'd trade them for any group in the Pac-12. The good news is that, barring transfers, you should end up with a bunch of 5th year seniors down the road, which generally bodes well for college defenses.

Oregon sure has a lot of DTs now, with the addition of Takimani, Roberts, and Mells.

I went back and watched some clips of UW games (gross).

Their D-line as a whole was slow and not good. I'd say on at least 50% of his snaps he was playing SDE instead of DT. This meant that he was getting beat a lot as a 330 pound DE who couldn't recover if a RB tried to go out wide or a QB scrambled etc. Just imagine playing Jordon Scott at DE; great player, but horrible fit.

As a DT, he was very good at being a space eater. His effort and stamina left a lot to be desired, but he at minimum can eat up 1-2 blocks in the middle and allow the LBs to come in and make plays.

I think we're going to see more 4 man Even fronts than we've seen the last several years and putting more big bodies between the tackles.

Big body interior DL are so important and rare that you can’t be a choosing beggar program when it comes to them. Plus, UW’s defensive line coach was an intern, in a scheme designed to prevent pass at the expense of run. Caple from The Athletic had a story about this, basically Tosh came in and sealed the deal as he knew him from when Alabama was recruiting him as a freshman. I don’t think this is a surefire hit, but at worst we’re better off than we were without him.

We’re at plus two before the transfers out. And I expect transfers out. If I was taking odds I’d say KWH and Macael Afaese are likely candidates to leave but anyone other than the top two wouldn’t shock me. I also view Ben Roberts as a bit different of a position than the other two space eaters.

Okay: Keyon Ware-Hudson, Suava Poti.
Too young/not enough info: Keanu Williams, Macael Afaese, Jake Shipley (?)

GDT, I agree on Ben Roberts. He's not a nose. Hes a defensive end as his body type looks a lot like Dorlus.

I hope Afaese turns a corner. He's a physical specimen. Shipley ended up leaning up and is playing OLB (and kind of a bad one, tbh). I thought they'd bulk him up and play him in the middle.

I'd hate to lose KWH. I liked him (when he was healthy, which was not often).
