Definitely seems like he got pushed out.

For months, all signs have pointed to it being questionable whether Mells was an Oregon-level recruit. When the staff moved on, his lone new offer was New Mexico, I believe.

But I thought he signed an LOI? What happens in this scenario? (Or are we at a new time where that doesn’t mean anything?)

I thought he was already enrolled

I have been imagining Lanning rolling into town, taking a look at the list of signees, and seeing Mells down there at the bottom and thinking, "who signed THAT guy?" So in that sense, I get it, but I would really hate to think he got processed AFTER signing a LOI (and possibly enrolling?). Hopefully that isn't how this is actually going down. I get that this probably happens in the SEC all the time, but I am not fond of the idea of Oregon adopting such practices.

He is in Spaces, and posting on Twitter that everything is fine.

I’d guess they offered to let him out of his NLI to free up a schollie and he got petulant as teens do, but he’s signed an NLI so we have to take him. I don’t think he’s an awful prospect, but if spots are tight maybe Lanning decided to give him a push.
