Oregon Depth Chart going into Fall Camp

On defense, it'll be interesting to see who starts across from Jabbar (Especially with Jahlil Florence likely not ready by then). Nickel position of Nikko Reed vs Brandon Johnson will be one to watch as well. It feels like the rest of our defensive look is pretty set assuming everyone stays healthy going into the season.

Offense feels even more set. I'm most intrigued to see who gets most touches after Jordan James at RB, and to see which young guys can get some looks at WR outside of Stewart/Tez/Holden/Kasper/Bryant Jr.

Any other battles or potential surprises you see?

Florence won’t be ready for week 1?! I wasn’t aware of this, last year the lingering injuries to him and Jackson (RIP) were devastating to the secondary (Huskies fans should be grateful), hope it’s a different story this season.

I would bet Daylin Austin starts week 1 if Florence can’t go, what is Austin’s projected position? Is he a CB?

Unless one of the young guys pops, in order to get the best players on the field I think you start Nikko Reed at corner and Brandon Johnson at nickel.

Florence might be ready by week 1, but he won't be participating to start fall camp. Hard to know at this point, but missing spring/summer/some of fall is not ideal.

Dan said ‘he is close ‘. Given week 1 is Idaho might be okay to let him sit and make sure he is 100% when the big games are played.

My two cents and I am most definitely not on Dan’s speed dial.

Could see this. Nikko has experience to be used in more than one way. I wasn't sure how ready transfers of Kam and Sione would be. Also Manning has always been serviceable too. Coaches have options, that's for sure.

I’m a bit surprised on the Nikko Reed projections. I would expect him to more likely transfer before the season over him ever starting. Austin will most likely be the main nickel now that he’s cleared and I bet corner will be a rotation of Kam Alexander, Muhammad, and Manning until Florence is fully healthy.

I think we've got to see what we have at CB with some of the young guys and I'm intrigued by how the ILB spot turns out with the young players because that feels like the position group with the least depth.

With the DTs it really comes down to which of the young guys shows out and pushes for starters reps.

The front seven 2-deep is as talented as it's ever been (potentially) and if you look at the backups you still see a bunch of players with high ceilings.

At RB I'll be watching how Jay Harris plays as I think he's got a chance at having a high ceiling if it all comes together for him at this level of competition.

It'd be nice if we get reports in camp of the local OT Trent Ferguson playing well because we're likely to have need of two new starters next year.

If I had to rank our positions group it feels like QB, DL, RB, WR, ST right now but the DBs could certainly show they belong once the season starts.

I would be very surprised if you hear anything about Trent Ferguson. He's only been playing football for 2 or so years. We probably will have to go fishing in the portal for OL depth next season. I don't think the recruiting was enough to replenish the cupboards.

Shaq and Fox at OT will be real keys in terms of getting guys ready for next season. Kawika Rogers is also interesting as we heard great things about him as a freshman, then he's been banged up a lot.

Tackle depth the largest roster concern this season and beyond. There's still a couple of big fish in the 2025 recruiting class at OT.

To answer the OP.

-How the secondary shakes out with all the pieces. Is Flowers ready to play day 1? Is Daylen Austin the starting nickel? I feel like the coaching staff loves Tysheem, but to me him and Savage are both box safeties. The kid from Duke has had some rave reviews over the summer as well.
-Offensive line depth chart past the starters.
-Which young DL will play.
-Has the Edge group matured to actually give us a consistent pass rush this year that we haven't had since Kayvon? Who wins the battle for PT there?
-Kenyon Sadiq.

I can almost guarantee we will get on OL or two from the transfer portal to help our team next season. We will likely lose 4 OL starters next season.

247 posted their projected Depth Chart for the season, and Erik said he's pretty confident it'll be Kam Alexander starting on the other side of Jabbar.

What strikes me is how few positions are available for one of these talented true freshman to actually compete for starters reps. Most all of them, even if they stand out early on are likely only going to be getting 2nd unit reps and that's a massive testament to the roster. I'm sure at least one of them is going to push a starter by mid season though so having this much depth should also help with the competition between the 2s and 3s.

I was thinking the same thing. This is certainly an uncharted territory for us, but definitely a good problem to have. Outside of the safety position (and maybe OL?), gonna be hard to see freshman play anything meaningful. Aaron Flowers seems like the only sure thing now.

But injuries are a thing, and I liked what Tosh said about treating the true freshmen like veterans and holding them that standard.
