It's hard to root for USC, but we should

Post by Merganzer »

USC starts their season with a trip to the bayou against LSU. Oregon & USC don't play each other this season, nor do they face Ohio State, but a W for a BIG team over a SEC team, especially on the road is good, and they might as well take care of Notre Dame, who, after opening their season at Texas A & M, have a pretty soft schedule.

I will consider it. Just don't make a similar post about washington.

My wife is a USC “fan” so I don’t root against them as much as I used to for non-conference games, so I’ll be rooting for them to beat LSU. But like StevensTechU said, don’t ever expect me to root for Washington in anything.

Yeah don’t think I can. I think Oregon can make playoffs without USC’s help.

And Big Ten winning in playoffs will matter way more than first week non-conference games

Better root for USC or the SEC will have 6 teams in the playoffs. We're gonna find out what real SEC bias is this year. Mark my words!

Nah, I'm good. I hope LSU embarrasses them. If SC losing to LSU impacts Oregon making the playoffs, they probably didn't deserve to make it anyway. Now that conference winners get auto bids, whether a team makes the playoffs is in their control, so I care less about rooting for conference success.

Also I do want to add I was at the Oregon vs LSU 2011 season opener in Dallas and LSU fans are by far the worst fanbase I’ve ever seen in person, so since then I’ve never rooted for LSU. That will also contribute to me wanting USC to win.

I'll just say that as a kid who was born into the Pac 10, i would kind of like to see us boat race USC in the B1G championship game. The trolling from that would be hilarious to me since they didn't want us to join them and it'd show the hubris of these networks and what they've done to the sport.

^^^ This 100%. I have a massive level of dislike for LSU since that game. Easy to cheer against them.

From an Oregon perspective, there are some positives and negatives either way this game goes. These teams don't seem to care which way I am rooting regardless.

So, not actually rooting for USC, but actively hoping LSU loses, is solid rationale for this one. Along with LSU, the only other teams I really want to lose every game are Colorado & Washington.

A USC win would be a boost to the perception of the Big-10, so I'm rooting for them, just as I used to root for Pac-12 schools in non-conference games.

It's hard to all of the sudden not root for old Pac-12 schools and suddenly be pulling for schools like Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, etc. Right now I couldn't care less, but I do hope they win their non-conference games for the same reason I'm rooting for USC.

It's just going to take a few years to adjust, for me, anyway.
