Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
This is HUGE news!
The OL went from a position of concern to a position of strength with depth.
Awesome!!!

Thats some serious experience. We will see what our actual starting lineup looks like, but gotta love how our OL is shaping up.

Oregon now ranked #5 in transfer portal rankings.

Looks like this cycle's Derrick Harmon. I'm not sure how I feel about needing three starters on the O-line to come from the transfer portal, but it certainly adds to a hopeful feeling about next year's team.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
I'd expect the OL to World-Pregnon-Laloulu-Iuli-Harkey from Left to Right as it keeps everyone in the same positions from the year before.
As for recruiting, having 2 of Dan's own OL in Laloulu and Iuli make it easier to accept. The rest of the OL are either expected to compete for one of those jobs or they're in that compete for rotation snaps battle. Next year I wouldn't expect 3 OL starters out of the Portal and frankly with the way that the Portal supplements your team similar to Free Agency in the NFL, I don't see the issue while we navigate these uncharted waters.

I still have a half-written response to another thread, but I think Gernorris Wilson is going to push Harley to be the 5th starter, probably at RT but potentially at RG with Bedford moving out to tackle. If Bedford comes back, I don't see Iuli starting unless he makes an enormous leap forward.

I get it. But also, if that's the weakness of the team, I'm glad the staff is addressing it. OL is arguably the most unpredictable and difficult place to recruit out of the High School ranks. Large humans, who are agile and and backpedal, are so tough to find and it feels like the hit rate on 4-5* OL out of HS isn't the same as a WR or RB for example. A lot of Oregon's best OL were unheralded out of HS and turned into all-conference players (Powers-Johnson, Unger, Throckmorton, Grassu, etc.). OL also takes time. You don't find many day 1 starters like a Jake Fisher, Tyrell Crosby, or Josh Conerly Jr. Dan just completed Year 3 on the job and Year 2 full-cycle recruiting. We did bring in Utu (5*) and Addison (4*) this class and have a verbal from Greene (4-5*) in 26 and are working on more top talent, so hopefully the pipeline starts to get going once again.

To me this is a great way for Lanning and Terry to handle Klemm’s absolute failure at recruiting OLine. I don’t expect this to continue as recruiting improves and the young OLine guys get developed.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
We basically did this with the DL from this past season. Our NT/DT were transfers, and it worked out super well for us. So agreed, if having 3 OL transfers starting for us is what we need then so be it.DmoneyDuck wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 1:21 pmI get it. Rumor UW has already kicked transfer WR from Texas, Cook off the team.

Would be interesting. Makes me wonder if they couldn't give him the NIL package they promised?buckmarkduck wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 4:07 pm Rumor UW has already kicked transfer WR from Texas, Cook off the team.
