Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
I trust Dan but this staff does need to proceed with caution ... you can't take so many highly touted DBs in back to back classes and then go raid the Portal for 3 additional DBs. Again if he's better than the recruits, he'll play or he could be a depth piece like Kam Alexander was last year but, at a certain point, you want to develop your own talent in house.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
I am not going to read too much into this transfer indicating that the staff has no confidence in the recruits or current roster. I think it’s more so the fact the Canady wanted to transfer, Hampton was his coach at Tulane and clearly they have a relationship. We do need safety help and if you throw a bunch of alpha-dog competitors in a room the killers are going to rise to the top. It’s a different mindset. We don’t know if our staff actively recruited him or if he reached out first. Elite competitors are going to step their game up no matter who is brought in to their position group.
I also think part of this is us a fanbase learning how to wrap our heads around having consecutive classes that are now 90%+ blue chip. Even up to 2019, when we would get the 4/5 star players they’d mostly be contributing within the first few games of their true freshman years. Guys like Ngata, JStew, Cliff, Huff, Colt, DAT, Tyner, Freeman, Penei, KT, Noah and some I’m forgetting. Even some of those guys took a few games to see the field.
With the last 3 classes we’ve been stacking the roster and everyone is a blue-chip. I sense a little concern from the fan base if a 5-star doesn’t come in and light the world on fire Day 1. The overall talent on the roster is vastly improved. I also think Mario missing on “5-star talent” like Flowe and Thompson has made us all quicker to freak out that a staff made mistakes in recruiting when said blue-chippers aren’t contributing right away.
Even in recruiting and player evaluation, it’s an art backed up by science, not a science backed up by art.
We will be fine.

The issue is if you have A-level talent that you don't let reach their potential because there's a B-level talent who is more game ready today, you could end up lowering your ceiling. That's my concern, at least, as I've seen these highly rated classes come in yet seen the rotations stay small.bdkipe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:32 pm I am not going to read too much into this transfer indicating that the staff has no confidence in the recruits or current roster. This, especially with last season where for whatever reason Oregon was not putting away opponents allowing the young guys to get valuable reps late in the game.StevensTechU wrote:The issue is if you have A-level talent that you don't let reach their potential because there's a B-level talent who is more game ready today, you could end up lowering your ceiling. Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
I am concerned as well, if that talent is missed. But what really is A-level talent? Do you, as a fan really know? You can watch all the tape you want. You don’t see them in the weight room, you don’t see their interaction with teammates, and if they are Alpha dogs in meetings. The hunger. I’m puting my money on what the coaches have evaluated. They aren’t looking at just today, they are planning a year or two in the future. They have a pretty good idea of what they have to work with down the road.StevensTechU wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:51 pmThe issue is if you have A-level talent that you don't let reach their potential because there's a B-level talent who is more game ready today, you could end up lowering your ceiling. Talking myself into the Ducks being fine at tackle is getting harder. Silva wasn't a star but was good depth.

Depends if guys like Crader, Furguson, and Lipe were climbing up the board.StevensTechU wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 8:07 pm Talking myself into the Ducks being fine at tackle is getting harder. Silva wasn't a star but was good depth.

Have to imagine they'll be adding some players in the spring since they're down to 82 scholarship players.

Addicted to Quack did a far more complete film review of Isaiah World than I did. Here's a link and one excerpt.
https://www.addictedtoquack.com/footbal ... aiah-world
"In 2024, I graded World as having a 19.28% per-play error rate in run blocking and a 22.88% per-play error rate in pass blocking. These numbers were an improvement overall on his grades in 2023, and as it happens, were better than all of the rest of the Nevada linemen in 2024 – at all times he was the best lineman on the team each year with the exception of 2022 when Starck and the returning center graded out better. These numbers were common to see among middling-to-poor starting Pac-12 offensive tackles in my experience, but they didn’t achieve the Oregon standard of 10% error rates that have been the historical basis of the Ducks’ offensive success."

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
Watching his run blocking errors, a lot of them look like very coachable issues. None of them seem to be limitations due to his physical build. In fact, it almost seems like was overly athletic/ambitious on a lot of his block attempts.StevensTechU wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 9:12 am Addicted to Quack did a far more complete film review of Isaiah World than I did. If he's a coachable guy, then I'm not too worried. He's physical/athletic and has the experience, now he just needs someone to help him put it all together.

I'll just go back to this. When I heard Bo Nix was coming to Oregon (Like who?) and them watched his tape I was like, "That is the f'n dumbest decision I ever heard. Who's dumb idea was this? This guy SUCKS"
So yea, I will sit back down and shut up and trust the coaches.
