This is hard to believe after the dominance Oregon has shown the past few years in recruiting and in the portal. Possibly there are extra-curricular monies being spent as is rumored with Lanning's contract? Anyway, it makes a funny talking point vs. USC and other fan bases who insist Oregon is only winning because they outspend everyone. Behind Kentucky and Arkansas? Really?

The only plausible explanation is Phil Knight is paying off the 247 staff to publish this fake news.

I suspect the recruiting rankings are a better indicator of how much (relative to each other) money teams are spending on recruits. But we (the non-connected public) obviously can't know anything for certain.

Even the folks who are working directly with NIL funds probably only have good data on one school. But they lose a couple battles to a particular school and they conclude that school has a bigger budget--but even then, that school might just have different priorities on where to spend the money.

In short, I don't think anyone can really put together an accurate list. Maybe the coaches/boosters at the top schools can guess. But basically every program plays this kind of thing close to the vest. Numbers really only leak when they get crazy.

I get what's being said here in regard to rankings vs results but consider what each team above us has to deal with in regard to their football team makeup. Take for example Texas with Steve Sarkisian making a career out of failing upward. Same with LSU. Take Ohio State and Penn State with their constant will beat up on lesser teams vs lose to good teams. Sometimes it is about things other than overall money spent. You can pay an absolute fortune for say a cybertruck or get a reliable work truck for work kind of thing

I seem to recall losing a lot of recruitments for portal guys last year. Jermod McCoy (OSU > Tennessee), for example. We ended up with Matt Bedford after missing out on other linemen. So it's likely we weren't the highest bidder for quite a few guys.

I get that Oregon lost recruiting battles, but there is no way they have the 19th-biggest NIL recruiting footprint in the country. If they really are that efficient, they need to give some management tips to the Blazers as well.

So how does disclosure of NIL money work with private schools like Usuck. Stanford (don’t quote me) has one of if not the largest endowments of P4 schools. I know that has nothing to do with available NIL money, my point is they shouldn’t have a problem with raising funds. One would think they should have money growing on trees for NIL deals and could pull whomever they wanted as long as they qualify for admittance. Other than the Yankees whom else has been consistently successful with “buying” a championship? I like DL approach, finding talented players that want to be at Oregon, fit the culture and system then pay them a fair.

It's all mostly a guess from a WSU grad/cpa. I don't even know how you could go about it unless you were trying to find taxpayer information on each player for what they claimed in the previous year.
