Illinois was supposedly the favorite but Oregon is in the running for sure. Would be a big pickup for us.

Seen a couple people on Twitter say Oregon may lead for him but hard to verify if they have any accurate sources. Most stuff is about Kentucky reaching out to him. Would be a major get for Altman.

In NIL era, beating out teams like Kentucky is gonna prove to be difficult. Hopefully he seems himself as a good fit at Oregon, because I think he would be an ideal fit in our backcourt.
I don't see a world where Ducks basketball is outspending Kentucky in NIL. Seems like an excuse if Kentucky doesn't end up getting him, and probably a made up figure.

Yeah 2.5 million is pretty high. I'd be shocked if even our 3 stars were making 1 million or more.

I will never understand where this kind of money comes from.
Ultra-high net worth (UHNW) families are those with $30M or more in net worth. Is Oregon finding 5 of these people and getting them to all pitch in $500k to bring a basketball player to town for a year? Then, aside from Phil Knight, how big is our base of donors who have a net worth above $250MM? I'm not sure if Kilkenny is in that club, and the Pape family probably is in that neighborhood or higher, but I imagine the wealth has been divided a number of times among family members. I just have a fundamental lack of understanding of how NIL money ($15-20M for a football team, $5-10M for a basketball team) comes together, if not just Phil Knight writing check after check. This forum is full of diehard fans, yet I would bet only a handful have ever issued a donation check to the athletics department.

That $2.5 million offer is pretty big considering Oregon has never spent that big on MBB before. They were likely paying that for most of their rosters from the past few seasons.

If Duke is involved as well, I'm not going to bother to get my hopes up about the Ducks getting him. Would be a great get, but not banking on it.

That was certainly the original intent, but I believe the present status who is a portion of that and a big portion pay-for-play no different than professional sports, with donors footing the bill. But as I said to begin with, I don't really understand it myself.

Maybe Tim Boyle from Columbia is a basketball fan? The Dutch Bros. guy is also a billionaire now and an Oregonian whose brother graduated from UO (and helped him found the company before later passing away). There's also Steve Ballmer and his wife, but I can't imagine he's donating to Oregon NIL. Those are the other 3 billionaires I associate with UO after Phil.
There must be a few other pretty wealthy families with ties to the school that stay out of the spotlight.

Crowd funding also creates a surprisingly big dent, even at relatively small amounts per donation.
