PAC 'til I die. I sports-hate USC, Big-10, Big-12, SEC in that order.

I do miss the Pac-12, but I do have conflicting feelings as I know Oregon was never going to win a national championship in the Pac-12. It sucks to see the landscape change the way it did but Oregon was one of the biggest beneficiaries of conference realignment so as a duck fan I’m excited to be in the B1G as it elevates Oregon, but it does suck to see college sports come to this.

Not so fast my friend. Washington was in the Championship game the last year of the PAC-12 and last year under the new 12 team playoff system, being out of the Top-4 seeds was a huge advantage. Oregon's recruiting has been its own swag, NIL and Coaching staff, not its Big-10 unloved step child 1/2 media share affiliation.

That was prior to conference realignment though. After 2023 with the new TV deals there was no way a Pac-12 team was going to be able to compete with the best of the B1G and the SEC for a national championship.

The bottom 5 teams are really bad.

IF USC- UCLA hadn't bolted, been poached by the Big10, PAC-12 would have gotten a media deal that paid Oregon at least as much and probably more than what they are getting from the Big-10. Vastly better travel. Conference money is not nearly as important as NIL money from donors as Oregon, Miami, SMU, Tennessee and others have proven.
Last year Oregon was relatively unscathed by the West to East travel, but that disadvantage could be seen by the other 3 West Coast teams and will catch up to Oregon in a few games in the years to come. Frankly, it was likely a factor in the sluggish line play in this last game.

If you really want to go back, imagine if the PAC had embraced the dog eat dog nature harder and gotten Texas and Oklahoma when that opportunity presented itself. We'd be living in an alternate reality.

It's part of why Larry Scott's tenure has to be viewed as being so terrible because he had a brilliant idea but then didn't do anything to make it happen.
I'll never respect USC for what they did to the Pac 12, they put their silly sword in the backs of everybody.

But according to Beaver fans it was Oregon that killed the Pac-12….

The only upshot is that I read travel costs were only around like 8.4M last year playing in the B1G with like 2.2 of that going to the Rose Bowl stay (not sure what else they may have thrown into the "Rose Bowl" budget) so we're definitely making back the extra miles to make the move pay off.

You don't happen to know this number for our last year in the Pac do you?

I probably will in a moment...let me find the documents on the GoDucks website
Reading this suggests a figure around 7.5 without Bowl Travel
https://goducks.com/documents/2024/1/17 ... _FINAL.pdf
The AUP ending June 2024 shows 8.6M travel and 4.7M bowl expenses
https://goducks.com/documents/2025/1/13 ... _FINAL.pdf
I don't believe the AUP for June 2025 has been released which would be the real number to show the true change in conference travel financially.
