Feel pretty bad for Ole Miss. They haven't been particularly relevant in years. First year they are relevant and their coach gives them a mortal injury that will set them back to the dark ages again.

I also don't know if it's just me, but I feel like Kiffin is the most overrated coach out there. We've seen him in the Pac-10/12 and he wasn't all that. He went through Saban's rehab program but he still doesn't strike me as some generational coaching talent.

I find it entertaining how he has left every place he coached at (as a HC) before on bad terms (Alabama OC job being the lone possible exception).

I don't understand why Ol' Miss would choose to hire from within, considering the circumstances. Kiffin will obviously try to poach their recruiting class and staff. If they had a new coach that was PROVEN, that guy could choose his own staff, try to save as many recruits as he can, and then move forward, with the understanding that it's going to take 1-2 years to recover from this setback.

I don't know anything about the guy they hired from within, but unless he has proven head coaching experience, is a great recruiter, etc he's in deep water.

Ole Miss has a few reasons to go with Golding. To start, it's not a major job. They can throw a lot more TV contract money at people than they used to, but if anyone on this board can name multiple successful Ole Miss coaches then I'll mail you a gold star. Then, because of the timing of this all, they had already missed out on all of the top mid-major coaches in the region with Golesh, Sumrall, and Morris getting new jobs. So then your options are to either go with a top coordinator at another school or promote your own coordinator.
