I think he is a good choice. He might also help with East Coast recruiting!

I'm kinda curious to why we want to wait til after signing day to announce him as the new coach?

I know it's pretty late already, but wouldn't getting him into the recruiting scene as early as possible help us out?

"Jerry is a veteran coach with coordinator experience that is well respected as a coach and recruiter," said MU Coach Mark Snyder said. "Jerry has coached numerous players that have gone on to the NFL and I know will be a great asset to our staff."

Azzinaro coached the defensive line at the University of New Hampshire last season (That would be the CK connection), after he served as the defensive coordinator at Duke University from 2004 to 2006. He was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Syracuse University from 1999-2003, where he worked with current Marshall Defensive Coordinator Steve Dunlap.

His other coaching stops include serving as the defensive coordinator at the University of Massachusetts in 1994 and again from 1997-98, coaching the defensive line at Boston College (1995-96), coaching linebackers and serving as recruiting coordinator at UMass (1992-93), serving as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at American International (1987-91) and serving as head coach at Division III Western New England College in 1986.

Azzinaro has coached multiple players that have gone on to the NFL, among them are All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney and starting defensive end Josh Thomas of the defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts.

After spending his first two years as the defensive ends coach at Syracuse, Azzinaro welcomed the tackles to his ranks, in addition to his duties as recruiting coordinator, prior to the 2001 campaign. During that season Azzinaro guided Syracuse’s Dwight Freeney to finalist recognition for the Lombardi Award, Nagurski and Bednarik Trophies, in addition to consensus All-America honors. A two-time unanimous All-BIG EAST selection, Freeney earned the 2001 BIG EAST co-Defensive Player of the Year Award. Freeney was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week four times during the 2001 campaign. Azzinaro’s defensive line collected 29 of the team’s 40 sacks, including Freeney’s NCAA, BIG EAST and SU single-season record 17.5 sacks. Azzinaro’s crew also collected 62 tackles for loss and forced 10 fumbles, recovering eight.
Prior to his appointment at Syracuse, Azzinaro spent four years coaching in the collegiate ranks in New England. In 1998, he was the defensive line coach at the University of Maine, after serving as the defensive coordinator for the University of Massachusetts in 1997. Azzinaro spent the 1995 and 1996 seasons in The BIG EAST Conference as the defensive line coach for Boston College, where he tutored four linemen who signed NFL contracts.

From 1992 through 1994, Azzinaro was the linebackers, in addition to serving as recruiting coordinator, at Massachusetts. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 1994. Azzinaro’s Massachusetts defensive unit was one of the top defenses in the Yankee Conference in 1994, ranking second in rushing defense and total defense.

Our janitor would stalk you if he found out you had created extra work for him. He would wait for the guys that caused trouble and trip them with the mops and such. Too funny!!! You never messed with that guy. He was okay with you as long as you didn't miss the toilet (boys bathroom) or trashed the place. I think he just wanted to be left in peace at night to smoke pot in the bathrooms. Oh man......

Had a guy at my HS who figured out what time the janitor cleaned the john... The kid rigged the urinal so when it flushed, water (Fresh, luckily) would spray out in all directions from a valve at face level.

The bozo was hiding in ons of the stalls when it happened... He never could figure out how the janitor knew i was him!

My theory is that the oxygen on that fool's brain was cut-off a little too long when the wrestling team was practicing sleeper holds on each other for fun...

Azzinaro has a pretty good rep as a D-Line coach... DC? Not enough info to really make a judgement, IMO.

I couldn't find much on him either. I guess I always want a star to come to Oregon, but it's great to have a sleeper (for example; Mr. Chip Kelly).
