What say you, people of the right, about this bellwether primary in TX? The purist or the one with a knack for pragmatism?

I just want to know how people like Paxton keep winning elections. Dude is a white-collar criminal who was literally impeached by the Texas Republican Party and was known for taking bribes.
This TX senate election against James Talarico is shaping up to be the most consequential TX senate race in... how many decades? Folks love comparing him to Beto, but no Democrat has polled as favorably/consistently as Talarico. I've seen maybe a couple of polls favoring Paxton, but in most they're either tied or Talarico is leading. That is crazy! It could just be the ongoing trend of Texas shifting toward being a swing state, but my feeling is this is more of Talarico being the right kind of candidate at just the right moment in our timeline. So you'd think the republicans there would have been laser-focused on dialing up the best kind of candidate to beat him.
And that guy is Ken Paxton?
I mean he might still win simply because he's the republican in a Texas election... but Ken Paxton?
Just wild. Sometimes you repubs remind me of my own party.
