Our OL pass blocking was exceptional.

Jmac is a beast.

Anyone else?

Jordan Davison is fantastic, he has an amazing ability to get YAC, he turns 2 yard carries into 5+.

We dominated statistically speaking. Clean up the mistakes and that game has a score pretty close to the line

We’re all bitching about a team that allegedly played a “meh” game against a likely playoff team.

The “meh” team had 500 yards of offense, schemed up open receivers all day and held the opponent under 100 yards rushing. They had 3 sacks against a team that came in to the game determined to neutralize the D line rush.

The likely playoff team had less than 300 yards of offense, had 0 explosive runs, was gifted at least 8-12 points by boneheaded opponent mistakes and was lucky their QB completed 50% of his passes.

The team that had 500 yards of offense and won is kicking themselves and livid for an “unacceptable” performance.

That makes me happy.

My positive spin on yesterday...

When we NEEDED to score in the second half, we stopped throwing sideways and actually threw the ball down the field for big chunks of yards. That's what our offense is going to be elite at this season, and it's what we should do a lot more of. It was nice to see that we'll be able to do it against a pretty decent defense.

My positive spin. If the refs didn’t blow the punt fumble call, and the DPI on Offord INT. No one would be complaining about the game.

I’ll never be confident in our kicking team, but I’m not worried about kickers (yet)

Also Amauri somehow falling for the “we’re obviously just lining up to draw them offsides” keeping that drive alive

He ain’t going to do that again

The team came out in the second half with more focus. That is what I wanted to see. They made fewer mistakes. They have a lot of room for improvement. Since the playoffs are a long way away, that is fine.

This team was actually pretty bad last season at making halftime adjustments. I can't remember the stat, but the 1080 guys were talking about some analysis recently comparing team success after halftime, and the Ducks were surprisingly bad when compared with other programs. So that's a bright side, seeing the Ducks come out in the second half with clear adjustments that made a difference. We only got outcoached for the first half.

I doubt those analytics take into account that we had the lead by a decent margin in most of those game. No need to make adjustments when you are just playing to get the game over.

Understand the sentiment, but I also disagree. It's abnormal for a team of Oregon's caliber to get stuck in the mud at halftime as often as it did over the past couple years. These coaches get paid far too much money to sit on their thumbs just because they're ahead. (I don't think that's what happens, I just don't think it's been an elite Xs and Os crew.)

It’s both, there were big games last season where the team, particularly the offense, did not adjust at all and were beat even worse in the second half.

The offense in first Indiana game is a good example, Oregon’s offense wasn’t “successful” in the first half but did ok. Oregon’s offense put up 10 points on 198 yards in 6 possession in the first half, but only 3 points and 64 yards of offense in the second half, also on 6 possessions, though 21 of those yards did come off the last possession which was in garbage time.

Meanwhile the Iowa game showed a real lack of defensive adjustments from the coaching staff, in the first half the Oregon defense gave up 7 points and 87 yards to Iowa on 5 possessions, but the second half Oregon gave up 10 points on 182 yards of defense in only 3 drives. I know 10 points isn’t bad (though it is Iowa) but Iowa was in position to score on their opening drive in the second half before Finney forced a fumble. If you take away turnovers Iowa scores on all 3 second half possessions. While the offensive stats show a small decline in the second half (nothing crazy) Oregon’s offense did not score a TD in the second half and did not complete a pass until the last possession of the game (though there was some good run design and while it was overall successful Will’s run plays on 3rd down were predictable).

That’s just two examples but I agree 100% with Pez, in the past the Oregon coaching staff didn’t not make adequate halftime adjustments. I know this is extreme to say (but I’m good at that) but I felt that I saw more of a halftime adjustment from Drew against Boise State than I ever saw from Will in his 3 year career at Oregon.

The fact that it took Drew just one game to make us remember what halftime adjustments look like is saying something. It's not that Stein never made positive adjustments, but Xs and Os never really seemed to be his thing.
