Apparently a few players sat for a majority of the game due to academic reasons, including possibly T.Williams, L.Longmire.
I was at the game. Sim and Jacob looked pretty good on offense and played good all-around games. Team defense still looks like a work in progress. Pick and roll defense seemed to leave a lot of guys open, but MVSt didn't have enough skill to take advantage. Ball defense seemed to give a little too much room for some open outside shots. Again not great skill by the competition to take advantage.
Watched Dunigan a lot because I've wondered about his rebounding stats. He was doing a decent job boxing out his man tonight, but still didn't go after the ball once it was off the rim. He would watch others go after it, which players like Sim, Jacob, Wilson, and Singler did pretty well. I'd like to see some more desire there.
Some nice sharing of the ball tonight led to some nice fast breaks and dunks by several players. Hadn't seen that in a while.

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering about Dunigan. Why isn't he playing major minutes? Is it because of Kent or because Dunigan shows lack of effort and just isn't getting it done? It's concerning to me that your true center is only playing 15 minutes a game. If Dunigan cannot get it going against a team like Miss valley state, I have to wonder how he will look against pac-10 teams.

McDonald's All American Dunigan finished with 5 points and ZERO rebounds in 16 minutes against Miss. Valley State last night. BTW..Miss Valley State is 1-9 and does not have a player taller than 6'9".

I don't even know what to say.

I honestly blame kent. When I went to watch Dunigan and Hump play at the Chiles center in a tournament with all the top high schol players in the country, Dunigan did fine. And that was against some very high quality competition. His offensive game was still a bit raw, but he would get rebounds and play solid D in both the games I saw.

He has gotten worse each year. How the hell does that happen? Kent is a crap coach when it comes to front court players. Dunigan still needs to get his act together, because 0 rebounds is just a disgrace. But I still believe that blame mainly falls on the coaches shoulders. Dunigan should be getting 10-11rpg and 3bpg. No reason he shouldn't be getting a double double every other game.

Its the same sad story. Unless a player takes it upon himself & just works his butt off in the offseason & pretty much coaches himself (both Lukes, AB, Teondre somewhat this year), they degress & get worse over their careers.

Look at a guy like Malik who was the top player in the nation coming in, all the other kids above & some below him went in the draft. He was rated above guys like Marvin Williams, LaMarcus Aldridge, Glen Davis, DJ White, Jordam Farmar, Corey Brewer & Dorrell Wright. All who went to college & had amazing careers. What did Malik do?..... And it wasn't for lack of talent. I don't blame him at all. Its on Kent. Its his job to coach these kids & make them better. Malik was the same player his SR year that he was his freshman year. No signaificant improvement. Kent can't coach.

I agree to some extent. Kent should shoulder some of that blame and I am by no means a Kent defender. He should have been fired 2 years ago.

However, Malik was grossly overrated coming out of HS. I knew from the minute I saw him play, that he was going to have a VERY difficult time making it in the NBA. Malik was a master at positioniong him self under the basket on both offense and defense, even against taller players. In HS, he often WAS the tallest player on the floor, and he could completely take over games. Malik even had a decent jumpshot. However, Malik's downfall is that he lacks quickness for his size. Often times in college, he had a difficult time beating players of similar size (or smaller) off the dribble or creating shots in the half court offense and, as a result, he would disappear for long stretches at a time. Malik was an amazing HS player, a very good college player, and now is a below average pro. Sometimes kids just mature young, and that is exactly what happened with Malik.

Malik lacks the body size to be a post player and the quickness to be an effective guard in the NBA. None of that was going to change with coaching. At the NBA level, 6'11" guys handle the ball and can move like college SGs. Malik just wasn't going to be able to do the same types of things he did in HS and college in the NBA. IMO, Malik's game is similar to Charles Barkley's, except he lacks the body weight to do what Barkley did in the NBA.
