Ducks no longer after Stephenson
Sucks, because he was a beast DB, but this probably means Dior is ours...
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... Recruiting
Senior cornerback and Baylor commit Tyler Stephenson (Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster) is still a hot commodity in the Lone Star state. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound jet has taken trips to Oregon, TCU and Arizona since committing to the Bears in July, but has remained strong with his commitment.
"I'm still firmly committed to Baylor," said Stephenson. "Right now, the only visit I have set up is to Baylor on Jan.16."
Another Big 12 South program could emerge in the near future, but it's up to Stephenson to make the call.
"I would just say the schools talking to me the most are Baylor, TCU and Arizona. Coach (Mike) Stoops came by the school last week. I've talked to coach (Charles) McMillan at Texas A&M. He was by the school last week looking at our younger guys. I talked to him and he told me he was backing off me being committed. I would have to initiate the conversation with coach (Mike) Sherman. That is something I'm thinking about."
Along with the Aggies, Stephenson still holds an interest in Texas.
"I called coach (Duane) Akina at Texas last week. They are tight on scholarships, but said they would give me a call if something opens up," the talented corner and hurdler said.
One program that is officially out of the picture is Oregon.
"Oregon called my coach last week and said they got another DB commit and they were full in the secondary, so they aren't recruiting me anymore," said Stephenson.

Re: Ducks no longer after Stephenson
We have some really nice, young talent in the secondary folks, and I think it just got better!
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

How do we know that the DB commit in question isn't Troy Hill? It would seem to me that since he is actually officially committed that the coaches would be referring to him. Don't get me wrong, I hope this means we landed Dior, but I would hate to get my hopes up.

My source just said Chip is officially back!
It will be announced at Autzen press conference tomorrow afternoon!

Because DT and scout also say the DB in question is Dior. Also, a mod on educk said Dior got a duck hat with his number embroidered on it.karlhungis wrote:How do we know that the DB commit in question isn't Troy Hill? Hopefully he sticks by that and doesn't pull another hat out when he's announcing. If he does stick, he would make a nice compliment to Harris in the future.karlhungis wrote:Well that is good to hear. Thanks.UOducksTK1 wrote:Because DT and scout also say the DB in question is Dior. This is really and good news bad news thread!
Great to hear about Dior he sounds like a keeper...you hate to let a guy like Stephenson go but maybe we weren't really in it or the coaches got the guys they wanted.

I've wanted Dior ever since I saw him. You can't coach speed, and the Ducks will have a lot of it next year at corner, especially if Dior commits. Avery Patterson, Dior Mathis, and Cliff Harris. Whew, did u see that? Didn't think so, that INT Pick Six was too FAST!!!

Aren't all those guys pretty tall too? I cant remember off the top of my head.. I can remember the days of the 5'8" corner's getting out jumped on what seemed like every play at the time.. If I remember right i think it started with a crazy A-State comeback in 03 or something like that?
Anyway tall fast corner's are a beautiful thing!!

Cliff Harris is 6'0", 165lbs. 4.6s 40 (not sure how accurate Scout's 40 time are, probably real inaccurate)brich75 wrote:NCDucks09 wrote:I've wanted Dior ever since I saw him. Avery Patterson is 5'9", 165lbs. 4.35s 40
Dior Mathis is 5'9", 175lbs. 4.31s 40
Never heard that Patterson was unhappy, in fact, his best friend Diante Jackson is on the same team with him. I did hear he had injury issues during his redshirt season though...

Re: Ducks no longer after Stephenson
well pretty much every 40 time from a HS kid is inaccurate. not for a second do i believe patterson or mathis are that fast. not. one. second. i've never understood why they time kids w/o shoulder pads and helmets, etc. other than to benchmark them. to me a 40 time is like measuring a kid who plays basketball w/o shoes. why does it matter how tall the are in bare feet? they aren't playing basketball in bare feet so why measure them in bare feet?NCDucks09 wrote:Cliff Harris is 6'0", 165lbs. 4.6s 40 (not sure how accurate Scout's 40 time are, probably real inaccurate)brich75 wrote:NCDucks09 wrote:I've wanted Dior ever since I saw him. obtw, i bet you 10 message board dollars that when Walter III is measured at the combine he isn't actually 6ft tall. my guess he's closer to 5'10. but as a fan, it does concern me w/ the smaller db's if mathis does come aboard.

Re: Ducks no longer after Stephenson
Yeah I agree. 40 times really should be timed in pads. Jwill is a perfect example for that. His 40 time was never very good. But when he was out on the field, he seemed to fly in the open field. Now maybe he just runs better in pads then other players OR maybe he just runs faster when he's in an actual game?hines wrote:well pretty much every 40 time from a HS kid is inaccurate. not for a second do i believe patterson or mathis are that fast. not. one. second. i've never understood why they time kids w/o shoulder pads and helmets, etc. other than to benchmark them. to me a 40 time is like measuring a kid who plays basketball w/o shoes. why does it matter how tall the are in bare feet? they aren't playing basketball in bare feet so why measure them in bare feet?NCDucks09 wrote:Cliff Harris is 6'0", 165lbs. 4.6s 40 (not sure how accurate Scout's 40 time are, probably real inaccurate)brich75 wrote:NCDucks09 wrote:I've wanted Dior ever since I saw him. Re: Ducks no longer after Stephenson
The thing with Jwill will is it took him about 50 yards to get to top speed. His stride was so long that once he got going he would just cruised. Same with Jeff Maehl. Won't have a great forty time but once he gets those long legs going hes just as fast as anyone.
