Looks like another swing-and-a-miss for a high profile East Coast recruit. I've said many many times on this board, and recieved A LOT of flak for saying --- we're wasting our time with the bigtime kids out East. We're not USC (yet) and with these kids having dozens of offers closer to home, parents will ultimately interfere, and 17-year-old 'whoever his name is' sissies out over going to the West Coast.

As of right now, I think it's a mistake to go farther east than that. I know you guys will jump on me and say "b-b-b-b-but we got LaGarrette Blount!"... yeah, well he wasn't 17 and leaving the nest for the first time when he committed to us either.

It's a waste of time and resources. Meanwhile, ASU hasn't givin up on the all the USC commits, and now Vontaze Burfict might switch his commit to ASU... http://moore.ibndata.com/

We just got Ethan Grant. There's literally a dozen big-time players looking at us out of Florida for 2010. And we have legit shots at Boyd and Brown. We've gotten East coast kids before, and while that's not where we should focus, we shouldn't just draw a border on a map and stick to the West side of it.

Boyd would choose Oregon if it were up to him, but it sounds like mommy and daddy have talked him into Clemson because they don't want him too far from home (despite his dad saying they would support whatever decision he made, even if that meant relocating to the west coast) and they want him to play under a coach with "Christian values". Oh well, I am happy with Masoli and Thomas for the next 4 years and am looking forward to getting a top 4-5* QB in next years class.

As I recall, Boyd called our staff, not the other way around. So if a top QB recruit called you up and said he was interested, you would just turn him away because he doesn't live close enough? didn't think so.

How are you a genius for saying Oregon shouldn't recruit Boyd? Think about it. When Pryor was recruited last year, that gave Oregon some pretty good recognition based on the fact he wanted to visit. Now, when Boyd de-committed from Tennessee, why do you think he so quickly latched onto Oregon? Do you think that Pryor's recruitment last year had nothing to do with it? By having this circus with Boyd, Oregon is building upon it's credibility, and yes, Boyd is a miss, but eventually will lead to a hit because of the fact he gave Oregon 3 more months of exposure. Add that to a possible NC run, which is the most important thing for exposure, plus 5 ESPN and or ABC GAMES!!!! Oregon already has Ethan Grant locked up for 2010, and East Coast recruits will be forced to take notice if they haven't already MUCH EARLIER in their recruitment now. Recruiting Boyd is important for future prospects. Oregon wouldn't actually NEED Boyd to play for 4 years anyways. It's about exposure.

How? Because I KNOW that distance from home is the #1 FACTOR for recruits when choosing a school (new SI article)... I'm not being arrogant, i'm saying we've been spending a lot of time out on the East Coast the last two years with not much to show for it. Meanwhile, ASU is about to steal a 5-Star Linebacker from USC, and is about to out-recruit us even though we've anninhilated them three straight years.

How well do you think Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Penn State would do recruiting out here on the West Coast?

That's irrelevant. Look at Oregon's in-state talent compared to theirs. Clemson gets 8-9 4 stars consistently per year from South Carolina, same for other schools on the East Coast like that. Look at Oregon this year, not 1 4 star according to Rivals. So Oregon HAS to recruit like this if the program is really going to be a powerhouse and contend with USC, which is certainly possible.

We are in somewhat of a unique situation, in as much as we dont have a major local population to draw recruits from. Unlike the East Coast schools, Southern Cal. schools, and the Texas's.
We have a student body of less than or around 20,000 students, and the school is situated in a town of approx. 100,000 people...WE have to not only recruit locally, but also have to spread our wings and recruit from these other areas, in order to compete on a high level.....If that means East Coast, so be it...We may not get em all..Of course we wont...But, if we can get a blue chipper now and again, from the East Coast, its worth the time and effort....
But, we cant limit our recruiting to those areas that are clean across the country either...We need to find who and what we want and go after em...
I wish I understood the recruiting process in a more indepth manner, but, it seems quite simple, you try to get the best that you can...and work within the confines that are available to you...

Ok all so first of all, Boyd hasn't even decided yet and it looks like it is between oregon and clemson. I looked at rivals and so far their experts have predicted EVERY prospect correctly (starting with all of their AA bowl commits) They are 9 for 9 and also predicted Boyd to oregon, (3 out of 4 of them did) they all also predicted Harris to oregon despite a recent offer from USC. I think we should give it to tuesday. Boyd has kept everything very close to the vest so all this is just pessimism. Give the kid some time and when he announces we will see. But don't forget how good Thomas looked in his time this year. And oh BTW. Masoli played SO well in the last four games, we are acting like he is nothing. He has two years left. And he is a main reason Oregon is in many people's preseason top 10.

so... CALM DOWN, no one is being arrogant and no one should be up in arms. We JUST got a top 100 player the other day. Be happy. If i got to choose one out of two bewteen Harris and Boyd. Its harris every time. Its not every year that, "the best COVER corner in the country chooses Oregon." But every other year we have a legit shot at a big time QB. Calm down we have plenty of time to get another Pryor or Boyd. But when's the next time we will have a shot at a Harris?

I don't think all our efforts should be focused on the east coast but I do support our coaching staff going out to the east caost trying to get the best talent. It is not working right now but we are laying the pathwork to someday have it work for us. It takes baby steps to be able to recruit year in and year out back there when we are not USC. I know the day will come when we will start landing these blue chip prospects from the east coast because they want to play for us. It may not happen this year but it will happen.

Honestly? Why would you even start this thread? Are you really so desperate for acknowledgment that you feel you need to point this out? For God's sake! You're not the only one predicting Boyd won't go to Oregon! Get off of your high horse and act like you're a respectable contributor to society. Why on God's Green Earth would this make you look like a genius? No one will respect you more for getting this right! You are clearly delusional and you're lucky karma got the boot, because you'd be pretty deep in the negatives by now.

Just the whole way you went about this. "I will look like a genius"... you could have just said that distance is the #1 factor. Unless you talk to Boyd and here his answer without any bias involved, you don't know who he will pick.

Great Point!! People need to relax, what ever happens simple happens.. if he doesn't choose us It just wasn't meant to be, but we still look GREAT for the next few years with Masoli and Thomas at the HELM!!
