Rose Bowl Loss

I honestly doubt this loss will hurt us in recruiting at all. In fact, it probably did just as much good with so much attention. We kept it close til the end, so at least we didn't get embarrassed.
What do you guys think?

I think it may have showcased the needed depth at the DT position a little. If I'm a recruit this year and see that I can get PT early on the DLine on a team as loaded with returning talent as Oregon, then I'm drooling over the opportunity.
I don't think this hurts the Ducks at all.

The fact that we are in the Rose Bowl is gonna help if anything. Any recruit could see that oregon shot themself in the foot this game. It wasn't as much as we got beat as we beat ourselves. We will finish strong in recruiting. This is the month the Ducks do most of their damage.

I don't see how this loss could have hurt us. I hope that Easley can ease the sting of it a little bit by committing today.

The Rose Bowl didn't hurt us...
Chip Kelly can't close recruits, that is what hurts us.

We didn't "OSU" or "UA" our bowl game so we will be fine but right now it hurts us more than anything!
Hopefully this off-season a new DC we emerge and we can finally play a complete game on both sides of the ball!
GO DUCKS!!

I actually do think it hurts us a little bit from a run-game standpoint. If I'm a tailback and I see that our only real plays against a legitimate defense were end arounds or screens, and I'm wanting to go to the NFL, I'm a bit worried.

It will be disappointing if Oregon can't use the lack of D-Line depth to their advantage in recruiting.
If anything, the RB showed a definite opportunity for a new guy to gain PT.

Well... consider that the game was close and that we would have probably won going away if our offense had not looked so rusty, I don't think it hurts recruiting at all. If you were to ask me at the beginning of the year that Oregon could go to the Rose Bowl this year but the price was that we had to lose the game.... I would have taken it in a heartbeat. I expect big things next season as most all the players return.

I think that winning the game would have helped us with the uber-high profile recruits we are in close competition with, such as, Lache Seastrunk and Marcus Lattimore. A win could have landed us one of the these guys, maybe...
So if you consider the missed opportunity cost of being able to land a future NFL Pro like that, I think you have to say the Loss hurt us.
I say this because it only takes a couple of well placed future NFL Pro's on a team to make a run at the NC Title game or Pac-10 Championship. And for Oregon, a couple of those types of players make or break a season for us, because we don't get blue-chippers across the board, like Florida, Texas, SC, tOSU. It's the difference between a special Rose Bowl season like this one and the Las Vegas Bowl, really (see LMJ, Masoli, Barner, Dickson). Subtract just one of those players from the equation and several games become questionable as to the outcome in 2009. Subtract two, eh well, it gets real dicey.
However, overall, we did keep it respectable, so all the recruits that I think have had us #1 on their leaderboard, probably keep us there. It was the recruits that had us #2, or #3, that the loss hurts us because a win might have jumped us up to #1 on their list.

You write like its a foregone conclusion that we get neither of these guys. Last I checked neither have committed so there has been no opportunity cost to this point. And even if we do miss on both it would be extremely difficult to point to the Rose Bowl loss as the reason we didn't get one of them.
Even with the loss the Rose Bowl was fantastic publicity for our program.

Not many teams make it to the rose bowl. If there are top players that were planning on commiting to the ducks before the rose bowl, I doubt they would change their mind based on the result of the game. Just my opinion.

Nah, I don't think it's over, it's not over until 2/3/10!

I am just saying that a "WIN" would have tremendously helped our cause with the high profile recruits. So if you measure the effect of not receiving the benefit that a "WIN" would have provided, then that is what we are missing out on as an "opportunity cost".
You're looking at what I said as a 'cup half empty' perspective, but I meant it as a 'cup half full'. A win would have filled the glass all the way up.

A loss leaves the cup half full where it is. A cumulative effect. So we are in agreement. ;D

As I said, Recruits that already had us as #1 on their list wouldn't drop us down.
But, Recruits that had us as #2 or #3, would not move us up on their list.
