Dead period

So Jan 11-14 is a dead period for recruiting and therefore coaches cannot contact the recruits, but apparently Orgeron was on the phone contacting Tennessee recruits telling them they had offers from USC at the same time Kiffin was making the announcement he was leaving Tennessee. That didn't take long, too bad the NCAA is not strict on these types of violations. It pisses me off that certain coaches and schools are allowed to do this stuff.

January 11-14: Dead Period, though staff are allowed to have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment.

from that same link: http://basketball.about.com/od/collegeb ... period.htm

so even during a dead period they are allowed a single call per week to a recruit (so it's really just a mostly-dead week).

Even if it's allowable, it's one of those unwritten rules in the coaching profession that you don't actively raid the recruiting class of a school you leave behind. Especially as you're walking out the door. There's going to be a lot of negative recruiting against the USC staff, and most of it won't have to be exaggerations

They also contacted the recruits that had already enrolled at Tennessee but had yet to attend any classes and told them not to go to class so they can easily transfer to USC. These guys are the biggest douches. They have plenty of talent and will continue to get plenty of talent at USC, they are like Urban Meyer and couldn't give a sh*t about these college kids, all they care about is winning at all costs.

sadly, if Orgeron's contract hadn't been voided at Tennessee yet that's fine based on the way the rules are written since it fits into the mid-year enrollment clause of it. Ethically it's going to destroy whatever decent reputation they had with other coaches... which couldn't be a whole lot even before this. I wouldn't compare Meyer to them, I don't think he's even close to their level of dickishness.

Kiffin will fit right in with NeuWeasel in the dirty department. I fully expect the NCAA to keep a very close eye on Laney boy right from the start. Weasel is probably licking his chops over the Kiffin move as he will benefit greatly from any sanctions imposed on USC because he will get the recruits who want to come to sunny LA. It will be interesting to watch.

there are differences between dead periods and quiet periods. they sound pretty much the same but the differences is during one period the coaches can call and the during the other period, only the players can call the coaches. kinda weird. took me forever to kinda figure it out.
