Just curious how fans feel about this issue.

If a player like Tony Wroten commits to Oregon before the end of this season, and the ducks don't make the NCAA tournament or fare too hot in the pac-10, could that help save Kent's job?

There's one thing that's a fact during the Kent era. When we have a true stud PG, we are awesome (See Brooks and Ridnour, then look at everyone else). Wroten is NBA talent right now, so I have a feeling he could be one of those PGs.

Now again, this is still a pretty big IF. But does a big time recruit, especially a PG, change your decision about firing Kent or not the season? thoughts?

It doesn't change my opinion. Kent can't get it done. Recruiting has saved him in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if it saves him again. If it was up to me though, he wouldn't be coaching next year unless we absolutely couldn't find a better option.

I'm sorry to say that my answer is a RESOUNDING NNNNOOOOO!!!! I have struggled to support him every since he went to bed with the Chambers gal. For me that brought into question his character, and integrity. Does that have anything to do with basketball? No, but it sure makes his short comings as a coach a heck of alot easier to deal with. I just think getting a top notch PG will only mask his inability to lead this team.

NO NO NO NO NO! How many great recruits do we have on this team already? One 5* isn't going to do anything. Kent must be fired. End of story.

Yeah... I'll join the angry masses here. Ridnour had an amazing three years, but he started as a freshman with a veteran team in 2000-01 and we finished 14-14. John Walls and Derrick Roses are rare; chances are, no matter how good this kid is, we'll still struggle with a frosh at the point next year. So bringing Kent back would be a very risky move just to sign a recruit... history says we'll struggle. And we're stuck with Kent. Blah.

Then there's Aaron Brooks. Lost in his amazing senior year was that he was borderline worthless his first two years, and a downright hindrance to the team as a junior with his consistent, uncanny late game meltdowns. McDonald All Americans don't always work out right away...

I agree I want him gone as well!

But can we still have Wroten?

No brainer. What is the point of landing a bunch of 4* recruits when you get the same results as Monson got with a bunch of Div II talent?
Everyone on this board realizes that last season was the worst for Oregon since 1991 and that this team is AGAIN in 10th place this season, right? This might be the worst stretch in over 50 years.

Just to point out though, there is a big difference in my eyes between 5 star forwards/centers and 5 star PGs. Anytime we have a top recruit at PG, we have some great years. Just feels like Wroten could give us exactly what we're missing.

A 5* PG would help any coach out though. It would be nice if our teams weren't completely dependent upon a 5* PG to have any success.

I wish we weren't so dependent on big stud PGs either, but that's the way Kent's teams work out. I hate it, most fans hate it, but that's the truth.

Weren't we asking the same question last year surrounding Jamil Wilson? And the year before...And the year before...

Recruiting has saved him in the past and I believe that it's very possible it could save him again, even if I don't agree with it. Having an cool new state-of-the-art arena will help greatly with recruiting and at that point I think we move on from Ernie Kent.

Considering we only have two scholarships to hand out, nah, recruiting won't save him this time. We have a very expensive arena to pay off now, and Kent isn't putting paying customers in the stands. Fan apathy means much, much, much more to the University than a high-level recruit or two.
