Two years in a row Chip Kelly tries to slide in at the last second and close a recruit, only to fail miserably and waste time and effort that should've gone to other recruits.

Now we're going to get stuck signing more JC castoffs that will eventually get booted or fail in the classroom.

I don't think it's just Kelly's problem; it's all of the coaches' problem. I think right now the coaches are overestimating the drawing power of Oregon. Until we actually go to a BCS game, we won't have as much recruiting pull with these east coast kids. I think that even with the FL kids liking us, our recruiting strength is always going to be CA and the west coast. We just don't have the history and tradition to pull kids from great distances here.

At least the kids are looking at us. A few years ago, think we would have had a shot at Boyd? Keep up the good seasons and they will come!

It's not easy to get high school kids coming to Oregon, but between Thomas, Harper, Masoli and the others, I have 100% faith in the coaching staff.

Expect the same thread about Bryce Brown in March or whenever he signs his LOI!!!

It is difficult because the Ducks have to compete with USC for all of the west coast kids and distance is the problem for the east coast kids because they are still suckling from their mothers. I think they should continue doing what they are doing but put a little more effort into Texas.

We can already start that one...He's an UM lock IMO

I agree we should keep recruiting the whole country...it's not like we don't recruit Cali because of it we're just adding more kids into the mix now

This is by far the rudest statement I have heard JC cast offs...your a joke...

Masoli and Blount take you to a national TV game and ten win season and you disrepect the JC system with that statement... WOW

I think he was more commenting on the less regarded JC guys who are being regarded as backup plans...and don't take this as juco bashing...I love what we've been able to bring in...I mean really all you need to say is reuben...but you could say Akili, tucker, Finley, solomona, tukuafu, tuopo, soaolo, momo, lgb, and I guarantee i'm missing some. At this time, Oregon can only reasonably go as far as TX and get recruits with any certainty. Anything east of TX is kind of a crap shoot right now. The recruits that we have gotten past TX (Scott, Roper, Embry, Blont, and Alston) are anomalies in Oregon's recruiting. They were willing to venture this far west to play football, but I would be willing to say that 90% of recruits don't have the willingness to go play anywhere in the country.

Football recruits are so much different than basketball recruits since FB recruits don't tend to travel outside of their state while BB recruits will go all over to play AAU ball. There just isn't that much of a circuit for FB recruits to travel and get used to being away from their homestate. With all that said, I don't think that Oregon should stop recruiting back east, but I think they need to be more selective in picking which ones to recruit. They need to ask a recruit up front if they are willing to travel. If they aren't, I say move on to others that are willing to.
