I would be happy if we got 1 of the 2.

I think our best shot is with Hall considering the JUCO boat to Oregon is sinking fast

I'd rather have Gaines.

Gaines will only be here 2 years but will be "The Man" when he is here. Him as a threat over the middle(230 lbs) and deep to go along with Harper, Davis, Holland and Maehl will really boost our WR's the next 2 years. Hall wouldn't help much the next 2 years and by then we will have Harper, Jordan, Cantu, Pflu. I'd still like to have Hall though

I think you are underestimating the skills of Adam Hall and as I've seen you do before, I think you are overestimating the impact of Gaines. Also, in two years Pflu will have graduated.

Hall sounded pretty pedestrian at the AA game.

I'd go by what he did during the week of practice which by all accounts showed he performed very well against top-level competition.

Did he? Alright that makes me feel better. I had heard he didn't do well all week, but maybe they just meant the actual game.

Seems like practice performance is what got Cody Kempt PT at the end of 2007...

Gaines is rated the top JUCO WR in the country. To me that screams that he is one of if not the MOST ready WR's in the country. With Davis' injury and our inconsistencies I think that Gaines is much better for the next 2 years when we have Masoli and LBG and others.

There is a HUGE difference between a performance in an All-Star game and a performance in a Pac-10 college football game. There's a reason Hall has the offers he has. Also, the only reason Kempt got any PT was because of injuries, not because he performed well in practice.

In Bellotti's final year as HC, in which we have a friendly home schedule, and a fast developing star at QB, we need immediate help to push us over the top to make a run at that NC or Roses.
Gaines is that answer at WR this year, not Hall, I'll take Gaines.
Losing A.Leon sucks, he would have been a HUGE PRESENCE on D, but alas, we'll do fine. Maybe convert Bryson Littlejohn to FS, he's about as big and fast as Leon was. Lol, that would be NASTY!

I'll be happy with either.

I think many true freshman will have just the same impact as Gaines will next year. Just because he is a JC does not mean he is automatically considered to be more ready to play. He still has to come in and learn the offense. He may be more developed physically, but there are plenty of freshmen who come in physically ready to play at WR. It's the nature of the position really. It's not like OL, LB, or DL.
I don't want to say that Gaines won't come in and be ready to play. I don't know. I just know that to expect him to come in and be the man would be setting your expectations a little high. I do agree with you though, his measurables sound fantastic and I have no doubt that he could end up contributing greatly next season if he comes here. I just think it's wise to temper your expectations a little.
