SO...

Post by duckfan96 »

who would each of ya like to see coach the mens bball team?? I think Westhead would do better than EK is doing. He has seemed to have given up. I think (jmo here) that MB has already told him you are gone at the end of the year. I know it wont happen but Roy Williams would be cool. But realisically ....who do you think Oregon can draw here?? I hear Few being mentioned alot...other than him??

I like the Tubby talk, although I'm not sure if he's gonna leave Minny.

Two that I think are realistic and would be at the top of my list are Lon Krueger, UNLV and Brian Gregory, Dayton.

You noticed that too! He is toast and he knows it. You can see it in his body language.

Yeah same here. I would like us to look at some young guys though. Like others mentioned, UNLV's coach or Utah St's cach. What about Butler's Coach? They've been great for awhile but he's stayed there.

I wouldn't mind Mark Turgeon but don't really see him leaving Texas A&M. I would've said Billy Gillispie, but he seems to really fallen hard after being fired at Kentucky (entered rehab for alcohol after some DUIs.)

Do we really want another coach from St. Mary's?

Krueger could be solid, but meh, hard to get overly excited about that. I really think we could pull in a bigger name coach with our new court.

I really think that we need to hire a big time coach to get a spark back into Oregon basketball and for the opening of the arena. I think hiring a young guy could set us back even more if he turns out to be a dud like Ernie. To do this though we will have to pay at least twice the amount than what we were paying Ernie(1 million). In contrast Tubby Smith can make up to 3.3 million per season and this is at Minnesota!

Depending on what comes out of the USC/NCAA meetings... I think Tim Floyd could be a great hire. Great defensive minded coach with NBA ties, currently he is an assistant coach for Charlotte?

And what about Terry Porter? He's currently living in Portland and I believe his son is playing high school hoops up there.

If we do go after an assistant coach then I would prefer one of the Duke guys Chris Collins or Steve Wojciechowski.

Wojo and Collins could possibly be good but they have no previous head coaching experience at the college level, which makes me wary of them. Porter could be a possibility but I'm not sure how his coaching style would fit into the college level. Floyd is a definite no since everywhere he's been, there's been problems.

I'm only aware of his incident at USC. What other problems has he had?

In the past whenever the usual who do we get to replace EK talk surfaced, Steve Wojciechowski from Duke always gets mentioned. Here's his bio:

I think we could get him to come, but obviously Oregon wouldn't be his "dream" school. If we're looking for someone long-term who would want to retire as an Oregon coach, I think the choice is Mark Few. WoJo seems like he would be here for a couple years, get his feet wet as HC and then probably bounce. But then again, Oregon has the coffers to keep him here if he shows he's an elite coach

haha, wojo's already been dropped!

I think that Floyd also had some incidents at Iowa State concerning some recruits and player conduct off-court, but I'm not certain on the particulars
