Andy Katz article on Ernie's inpending doom

pretty well written article, some telling quotes from both Ernie and Belotti, Ernie still being an arrogant, delusional prick who thinks he should get another chance and he believes the team is improving (what?)

worth a read.

I like Ernie and think he's a great guy, but quotes like these bug the hell out of me:

"I'm not going to bash my players. I'm not going to be negative with young people and criticize young men," Kent said. "But we are what we are. We don't shoot the ball well. My teams in the past have been very, very skilled. This team isn't like that. We need a couple more pieces."

Give me a break. The Pac-10 is crap this year, our talent is just as good as any other team in the Pac-10 (except Cal). You've had two years with this squad, and we've seen no improvements. But I suppose Kent is just gonna blame poor shooting and a lack of talent. Once a coach starts to make bogus excuses, fire him. And Kent is one of the worst big men coaches I've ever seen in my life. The lack of offensive involvement for bigs at UO makes me sick.

End of rant. Time for a change.

How difficult is it to teach a guy to hold onto the ball, go up strong, and dunk it in traffic?

Obviously, nearly every other coach in the PAC10 has a clue.

I really hope Belloti doesn't give in just because Kent is begging. It's always "give me one more chance". Sorry, but I don't see this team going to the elite 8 the next 2 seasons, so Kent is just going off of the past. The team was supposed to do relatively well this season and it didn't. Good for him that he is an Oregon grad and loves the ducks. This is a business, and winning is important as well.

This is really surprising, especially since Ernie said that the national perception of Oregon Basketball is much better than local...i guess Andy Katz is dumb too :?

Can we just make Jones the next coach? Notice how he didn't exactly praise Kent when asked about it.

When asked about Kent: "I would just say I want the best for the university and the best for the program," Jones said. "I'm sure he does too, being an Oregon grad. I'm just looking forward to the program being where it should be."

In other words, get a new freaking coach MB!

I know one poster that should enjoy this article. Anyway, I don't really feel the team has improved this season. Yes they have a better record, so what? Some writers like this fail to realize that the non-conference schedule was easier this time around, and the pac-10 might be at an all time low this season. This plea to save Kent is nothing new. We know that he helped turn around this program and graduates his players. What this writer doesn't seem to get is that a few good seasons don't mean it's ok to suck in the rest.

I'm hoping that one of the headlines from a poster on educk titled "Kiss Ernie Hello" doesn't mean the opposite of Kiss Ernie Goodbye, and that the poster knows something that we don't. :o
