Not saying it's not true, but that is according to Colin Cowherd on his show this morning. 3Mill seems like a ton of money when we could possibly get Turg. or Dixon for 2-2.5.

Re: Mark Few to be Offered
Key word there being possibly. Until I hear that Dixon, Turg, etc. are actually interviewing, I remain skeptical of their interest in our job, especially Dixon. Those guys both already have jobs at schools with not-really-arguably better basketball programs. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it does seem like a bit of a lateral move at best for them.buckmarkduck wrote:Not saying it's not true, but that is according to Colin Cowherd on his show this morning. 3Mill seems like a ton of money when we could possibly get Turg. or Dixon for 2-2.5.

It may be lateral but if UO is really offering up to 3mill, that's double what either of them are making right now. Plus through in whatever sweet deal Nike is offering and this job could be hard to turn down for a lot of guys. How many of us have or know others who have up and moved half way across the country for a 20-40k pay raise.

Yuck, I won't be excited if we get Few at all. Rather would have stuck with Ernie tbh..

The guy has taken a small school in Washington to more than what, like eight tourney appearances over the last ten years? He's brought players into a school that has nowhere near the recruiting advantages as Oregon or some other major program and made his program one of the most successful mid-majors ever. I would be happy with him. You guys that are expecting Dixon or Turgeon should tone it down a little IMO. They would be great, but those are some damn high expectations. I think Few would still be a great get.

Re: Mark Few to be Offered
Offering Few $3 million outright is a move that reeks of desperation. I find this story really hard to believe. If Dixon and Turgeon both turn down the job, then you go after Few/Alford. Maybe Kilkenny has offered to pay a large portion of Few's salary?
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

And there's also the issue of at least one minority candidate needing to be interviewed. This seems way too quick.

Are you serious? How old are you? Because you obviously have not followed college ball for very long.UOducksTK1 wrote:Yuck, I won't be excited if we get Few at all. Rather would have stuck with Ernie tbh..

Paying $3 mil for someone who can barely get out of the second round is not an upgrade. With that type of money being thrown around, you have to also give Kelly a raise since him and his sport makes the money for the whole department, not basketball.TheJuice wrote:Are you serious? Agreed, just a bad feeling that Few will be a huge coaching bust...greenyellow wrote:Paying $3 mil for someone who can barely get out of the second round is not an upgrade. Actually I think the people who have followed college basketball realize that Mark Few is highly overrated in our fan base.TheJuice wrote:Are you serious? How old are you? I would rather have Dixon or Turgeon because they have proven themselves at schools in major conferences and run systems that are time-tested and proven (solid offensive sets and sound defensive principles).desertfan wrote:Agreed, just a bad feeling that Few will be a huge coaching bust...greenyellow wrote:Paying $3 mil for someone who can barely get out of the second round is not an upgrade. You really would pay a guy who has never been to the elite eight before 3 million dollars a year? His recruiting isn't anything special either. Sure he has gotten to the tourney a lot, but the WCC has only started to be a serious conference with the last couple years.
Ernie was not a great coach, but taking his salary/success in NCAA tourney/recruiting into consideration, I'd take EK.

Re: Mark Few to be Offered
First of all, I would absolutely take Few over Kent. 3 mil per season does sound like way too much, although it's not coming out of our pocket is it?
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I do think Oregon can do better though.
