A little inside info...

Billy Donovan is serious about the Oregon job, but he's asking for an obscene amount of money. As in, $4.5 million or more. If we meet those demands, he's probably our next coach. But that's the asking price.
This is from a very good source, but I haven't gotten it confirmed by multiple people, so take it FWIW.

I don't think he deserves 4.5 mil. No college BB coach is worth that much.

ESPN is reporting that Tubby to Oregon Ducks "has some legs" as a rumor.
i'm wondering if tubby & donovan were 2 of the other candidates that were interviewed already (assuming dunlap & few are the others) since we're hearing some chatter about them now.

People at Florida have said that no one from Oregon has contacted them, but that doesn't preclude Donovan from contacting Oregon. I could see Smith looking here since he doesn't seem to have a lot of support from the Minnesota AD in getting facility upgrades. Oregon is investing in theirs so he may look at it as a good situation to go to.

also, it appears paul hewitt is staying at gtech (a job that tubby may have been interested in if it opened up)

It does appear that Tubby is looking to move and the only job as of now that interests him seems to be Oregon.

oh yea, the other job he was mentioned with was auburn, and they just hired tony barbee today. so if he is looking to move, you're right that we may be the only job at the moment that would interest him

I don't follow basketball like football. Has Donovan done anything since his title run?

Not sure who id prefer Smith or Donovan. smith's teams play better
defense tho. Id still like to see them put the move on Dixon. his teams
are more controlled on offense but they play tough defense. defense leads
to good offense. but hey any of those 3 would work for me. maybe throw in
a Turgeon.

His two titles, and he's had 24, 25, and 21 wins since those two titles. Definitely not the best, but considering what he lost after that championship run, a 21 win season + an NCAA appearance a few years later isn't too shabby.
And for what it's worth, all his players averaging 5ppg this season are juniors or younger. And their two best players are a freshman and a sophomore. So this team is still young, and the fact that they are making it to the tournament with a freshman as their star player shows me Billy is the real deal.
His recruiting is top notch too.

Don't forget that Florida has no state income tax.... For Billy D to come to Oregon his salary would have to at least offset the increase in his tax burden...

donovan would be a great hire in terms of high profile, great recruiting (combined with nike), proven success (2 national championships), uptempo style of play, and still fairly young. his cons: salary it'd take to get him, the concern of his teams underachieving the last 3 years (2 nits, and barely got in tourny this year), the concern that several players have transferred in recent years (haven't researched why but i believe about 5 or so have), and concern he may bolt for the nba after a few years.
i'd glady welcome donovan, or tubby, or turgeon, but dixon is who i covet the most despite his bland style of play - i just think he can flat out coach and if given the nike connection, new arena and higher profile recruits coming in, we could become a force in the west. i'd also be fine with few, but i'd actually put him 5th on my list behind these guys.

His teams may look bland but they play good, fundamental basketball that typically wins games.

Go for it!!!!! Yes it's a lot of money, but it would be worth it to have a top basketball program.

A top 5 of Dixon, Donovan, Tubby, Turgeon and Few would be great.
