Thoughts? Personally, I hate it. I think it's great the way it is now, and you're going to have several crappy teams make it that don't deserve it. You could also have coaches use the "well we got to the tourny" excuse.

Funny how they refuse to reform the postseason play everyone hates in the BCS but the most loved post-season in the world, they suddenly are changing even though there is nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, it's freaking amazing to me that the University President's didn't offer up their, "we don't want these students missing any more class time", excuse. Evidently, the students CAN miss class as long as it's convenient for these idiots.
To me, this is rock solid proof that they are lying and they're using that excuse about not having a college football playoff because they're profiting from the BCS in some manner.

Where did this 96 team tourney thing come from anyway. I mean admittedly I havent cared as much about basketball since Oregon started sucking but this seems like it just came out of nowhere this year. Its not like college football playoffs which have been talked about here and there for the last decade. I mean I've heard about tourney expansion but they've all been hypothetical by columnists. Nothing from the NCAA until like, 2 months ago

It just eliminates the NIT basically.

I wonder who will be playing in the CBI? Maybe a decent HS team against a JC?

Personally, I think they should eliminate the conference tournaments if they go through with this plan. I don't think teams get enough credit for what they do during the regular season. If it's all about money, why don't they have this same philosophy for college football?

So can a team without a coach play in this new tourney? If not we don't have a chance to play in it anyway!

Because they make so much money from the bowl games in football.

The most logical reason stated, that I've heard, for increasing to 96 is the # of D1 teams currently. When the field in the tourney was increased to 64, there wasn't over 350 D1 teams in the NCAA.

Until a 16 beats a 1, I see no reason why they should expand the tournament field. The only reason this could go through is because the coaches want better job security. The coaches of those borderline bubble teams that make the field will have a better chance of keep their jobs in a 96 team tourney.
I personally hate the idea because it wont help those underdog teams like butler or George Mason get farther, it just helps those average big conference teams make the tournament. I think this will dilute the tournament field and take away from the excitement.

I think 96 is way too much just like having over half of the college football teams being able to play in bowl games. Playing in the NCAA Tournament should be for good teams not mediocre teams with barely winning records.

The NCAA should be like the BCS games and then the NIT, CBI, and CIT should be like all the lesser bowls. I think it will hurt the NCAA tourney much more than it helps.

The NCAA Tournament is fine the way it is and should really only be the only post-season tournament.
