Who do you like?

I'd still consider giving Gillispie a shot...

Absolutely not on Gillispie. The guy is an alcoholic and an idiot. Apparently, he was sleeping around in Kentucky and was a complete mess. Gillispie is a good coach, but the guy is a disaster. Hiring Gillispie would be a good way to bring a lot of negative publicity to the program and university.

"If the Ducks don't look toward a former NBA coach like Terry Porter or P.J. Carlesimo then former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried could be a serious player. According to sources, Gottfried has been in the discussion among Oregon officials. But there is a split among the Duck hierarchy as Kilkenny who wants to find a solid coach that might not have the star name while Nike officials want a headline name with a new arena opening next season."

Now that the "name" coaches are off the board, is Phil going to allow Kilkenny to hire a good coach? This may explain why we haven't heard Brian Gregory's name.

Not sure how I feel about Gottfried. He had some success at Alabama, but apparently he was a great recruiter and a so-so. Don't really see how he would be an upgrade over Ernie..

But he was fired for just about the same reason as Kent: good recruiter but poor game results. I think we can do better than a fired coach. I'm not even sure on Gillespie any more.

Why arent we looking at Jay Wright of Nova?

I don't see Wright leaving 'Nova since it's a pretty plush job and his East Coast roots almost guarantees he stays there.

Yeah... it's not so much that we aren't looking at Wright, it's that we don't feel like getting laughed off the initial phone conversation. By the same token, we're not 'looking' at Roy Williams or Bill Self, either.

Gillespie is a damn fine coach, it would just depend on his mental state. Personally, I don't give a damn about someone's personal life as long as they're able to coach. If he's able to pull a Dennis Erickson and put his drinking behind him, then great. But, I don't really think we're looking at him.

I don't see Gillespie coming to Oregon. If I'm not mistaken, he's already had three DUI's and, unless it's changed since I left, Oregon law requires a MANDATORY 10 years in prison and $100,000 fine on the 4th offense!

Of course, that might be incentive for him to stay sober, but I know from experience that alcohol is powerfully addicting and there's no guarantee that on "any given day" he might fall from grace.

I highly recommend he stay away from Oregon and continue battling his addiction elsewhere.
