Just to show you how this "east coast recruiting" isn't working for Oregon this year, the only current recruits from not out west are Zac Clark and Brian Jackson. Our 2007 class was ranked highly because of all the California kids. It's a great start with Ethan Grant for next year, but I think we might need another 10 win season and a BCS game to close on a lot of these guys.

no big surprise here...we fell out of his favor a long while back. oh well

All depends on the person. I was really close to my parents and we got along fine, like no fights ever, so it would have been hard for me to go away for school. I really had no choice as out of state tuition is too high, but the story might have been different if I had my official visits to take. Even then, I am a momma's boy, so don't think I could have left the state.

Yup... I said the same thing and got absolutely blasted for it. We're not ready yet, until we win a Rose Bowl or a NC, I think it's a waste of time. We have a much higher odds of landing talent out West right now.

I know it's tough to remove remove ourselves from our own perspective, but try and think of it like this: How successful would Clemson and Virginia Tech be recruiting out in California? I think they'd lose the recruiting battle 99% of the time. Why would it be any different when we go out East? Florida and LSU on the other hand can recruit anywhere, why? BCS wins...

Even though we've been striking out on these eastern recruits, you can't give up.. we're building a foundation and in the years to come, I can envision a lot more of these kids coming out here.. it looks like in 2010 we'll make some more progress. With USC, UCLA, Cal and Stanford coming on, it's becoming harder and harder to get a lot of kids from Cali... we still are getting a select few, but I think the coaching staff has come to a realization that to compete with the likes of SC.. we have to start recruiting the entire nation and Florida is a good place to start, it's as fertile if not more than SC and with FSU and Miami in decline. I also might add, this all started happening once we hired CK (East coast ties) and it's why these NEW Coord's are also being hired..

I am elated that neither duckgrad99 and oreducks77 are not recruiting for the Ducks. If we don't open new recruiting areas we will forever be a middling pac10 competitor. The northwest will never be a high school football bastion and in California we will always be behind UCLA, USC, Stanfrod and Cal. Even the Arizona schools have an advantage over us in California!

With respect to recruiting the east, midwest and south, now is the time! Surely, that is how MB and CK view the recruiting landscape.

There is plenty of talent in California even if we are behind the schools you mentioned. We were able to get guys like Parker, Howry and Demetrius Williams in the past when we weren't even as good with recruiting. Weren't they all from California?

So you're satisfied with a BCS bowl every 5-10 years are you? That is what our current recruiting strategy will deliver us. Of course that might be overly optimistic considering the rebirth of football at Stanford and UCLA. Tight competition is sure to get tighter. Staying in place rarely leads to better times.

I can't believe there are still people wanting us to stop recruiting byond the west coast. It's laughable at this point, it really is. We have almost no home grown talent so we shouldn't recruit any where but California & Arizona? Seriously?! So no Blount, Harper, LaJames, Alston, Blair Phillips, Jairus Byrd. Yeah that's what we want, those guys never did anything for the Ducks.

Things are just getting started on the east coast for us. We missed on a few guys this year but look at all the interest we have next year from all over the south & one commit in Ethan Grant.

I am happy to let the coaches do the recruiting where they deem possible. Lets allow this class to be completed before we render our evaluation on the paid staff that managed to get us a top 10 finish with the above classes.

Texas is one thing. There are so many good athletes from that state, so not all of them can go to the Texas schools. Trying to recruit in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, etc hasn't done much good. I'm not saying just to go after California players, but maybe Texas and everything west.

That's why I'm glad you have no say in Oregon's recruiting. You will become a believer after these next few years, trust me.

Texas and Florida can both be very valuable for us and upcoming classes, But staying away from any other state because there's a top recruit like Boyd (VA), Pryor (PA) is ludicrous.. now if MB and CK wasted ALL of there time recruiting those states.. I could see your argument, but not go after top tier kids because they might be interested in us but live on the East coast isn't crazy! We're not USC yet, but that's who we have to strive to become... they can and will get kids from anywhere.
