He has a good sense of humor, which is a nice thing to see. I don't see any problem with him now that he has answered a lot of questions about his motivations and his personal coaching style. He comes off as a smart and personable coach who I think fans will gravitate towards as the season starts.

That part of the press conference sounded a little awkward but it does seem as he wants Kenny to stay but is willing to let Payne make that decision on staying. I hope Payne does since he's our only lifeline for any top recruits that are still considering Oregon at this point.

I'm not to worried about it.

I definitely think he understands how important it is to attract top talent and he seems focused on building a staff that will accomplish that.

The press conference was a live streaming feed and it was cut as soon as the press conference was completely done. I'm not sure if they'll post it on the website but they may since I remember watching Chip's Signing Day press conference a couple days after it happened.

I just hope people are patient and don't get all over Altman if Oregon doesn't win 20+ games the next 2 seasons and doesn't go to the tourny. It's possible that it happens, but these are still Kent's recruits, and the players have to get used to a new system.

I thought it was smart to have his wife there as well. Probably aimed at allaying any concerns of an about-face like he did three years ago with the Arkansas job.

Time will tell of course on what kind of coach he is here and how his teams do, but I also thought he made a nice first impression.

I liked the answer to the first question, about why leave Creighton for Oregon now, and not Arkansas?

"Well, I think that's why they have you sign those papers..."

I also like the emphasis on recruiting... Recruit nationally, bu with an emphasis on the West Coast. Seems as if Kenny Payne will at least be given some respectful scrutiny.

I attended the press conference. Both Altman and his wife flashed humor in a stressful setting. His answers were direct with repeated emphasis on " student athletes". The press questions were typical and not insightful.

The surprising thing was immediately after the press conference. About 80% of the reporters interviewed Kilkenny and the remainder the President. That left alumni and athletic department personnel talking to Altman. A bit odd as he was initially standing by himself with no interviews.

Several players attend.

My read, Altman is not a guy to challenge. He noted several times that he only wants players that "want to play here". The emphasis seemed to suggest that it was more than wanting to play as other comments suggested you needed to sacrifice and be a team player. He stated he was looking for player that would make the "extra pass".

When asked about players he has recruited at Creighton that had asked for their releases from letters of intent he dance a bit. He said he would talk to them if they had an interest in Oregon. He followed that with a remark that he would be looking for player from across the country with emphasis in the west.

He responded to a direct question regarding Payne by saying that he would make the decision on his staff over the next to week. He did say that they met last night.

Note from todays football practice. Barner had a one handed catch that he took the distance...pure ballet. The defense won the day largely because the DBack are rockets. Paulson caught a long pass with two DBacks on his tail. I think it was Javis that punched the ball out after running Paulson down, defense recovered. On the QB side, Costa broke one that would have gone all the way. Masoli playing the slot put a move on a DBack that caused him to trip and land on his butt then caught the pass alone. Next play, Masoli just flat out beat him. DT's long passes are the future. We are going to have a vertical game this year. Dior Mathis was wicked on returns. We are really set for kickoff and punt returns. Speed, speed, speed.
