Mops, on his Twitter page, mentioned a player named Tyrone Nared. I looked him up and doesn't seem like a bad player, just someone who has been off the radar since he redshirted at a community college and just played one year there. They say he can shoot the 3 and is a good defender (6th in nation for blocks among JCs, which isn't bad for a 6'8" player). Only problem I see is that he would be a junior, which would put him in the same class with Dunigan and the rest so he wouldn't alleviate the scholarship balance problem.

Kid reportedly sat out both his senior campaign in HS, and his JC frosh season to concentrate on academics.

According to this site, over 37 games, Nared averaged 57% FG (53% 3pter's), and 69% FT.

Nared has already used his redshirt season, and 2 years of playing time, at 2 different JC's, Div. II CC of Rhode Island (Woonsocket, where he participated in 30 games), and Monroe College of New York (37 games).

Over the 2 seasons of play, Nared made 26/71 3 point FG (36.6%).

After signing a LOI to Creighton on 4/22, Nared requested a release. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact McDermott, the new Creighton HC, is bringing in his son McDermott Jr, to play the same position?

Did he sign an LOI to Creighton?

It doesn't look as if he did so maybe that is why he may still be an option, even though I would prefer a FR to possibly another JR on the roster.

As I edited my post above, Nared signed on 4/22, and was supposedly released by the 28th.

The son of the new HC apparently plays the same position...

I understand adding a junior to this team is not on everybody's to-do list, but adding a shooter sure as heck should be. We need a guy who can hit a consistent trey no matter what year he is.

I find it preferable to have more FR on the team, but if he can be a shooter the teams needs, then I would be all for that. It's just going to make that much harder to recruit since they'll possibly be 6 scholarships open in 2012. Altman will probably wind up using some JCs to fill those scholarships to spread out the classes. I would also prefer he sign only 2 players this year and have enough for some talented players that are in the 2011 class who have interest in Oregon.

Totally agree. We have 3 of the juniors most likely leaving so adding one JR wouldn't be that bad. Especially if he will be a weapon for us. Altman's teams shoot a ton of threes & if you have a 6'8 guy who can splash from outside at a high percentage that makes the offense much much better.

Something to remember for Altman, his staff and his recruits: This isn't Creighton. He has to be able to recruit better players at Oregon. Just because a recruit is good enough to play for Creighton, doesn't mean he should automatically be given a chance at Oregon. I'm not necessarily talking about this recruit, but I don't want to take players just for the sake of taking them.

That's what I'm thinking about a guy like Nared. He's talented enough for a Creighton but I wonder how well he would do at Oregon's level. After watching the video that was produced about him at CCRI, it does seem like the only reason he was never recruited is that he sat out his SR year of high school to concentrate on academics and continued that by sitting out another year at CCRI. But his coach did say he would make a good player at the Division 1 or 2, which makes me think he's only a marginal D1 player if his coach also mentions D2. A good D1 player will never be mentioned as a candidate for a D2 school. While the talent level Altman is recruiting needs to increase, I think it's asking a lot to get talented players for the 2010 class at this late in the cycle. The coaching search made it real hard to recruit.

Seems like he would be a decent replacement to fill Humphrey's spot.

I bet Creighton would have beaten Oregon the last couple of years
