Considering there's about 12 HS football players in all of Nebraska, meh

I don't think there is a lot of talent in Nebraska. The second best player is going to Ohio.

He does a 4.5 40...nice speed for a guy who is 6-4 and 190 lbs.

I dont know alot about this kid,but I will say i like what i see in has stats and measurements i think this kid will do nothing but make us a better football team!!

You can almost guarantee he will be on the track team at some point, as well

Based on the comments beneath each athlete it appears to be a preseason ranking. Notice they are projecting Hawkins to be the QB in 2008.

Hawkins film on Rivals looks very impressive. The kid is clearly an exceptional athlete and could easily play receiver at 6'4" 200 lbs, but the thing that really struck me was how good he looked as a passer. He seems to have a pretty good arm and decent mechanics which will be sured up by CK. The kid only played in 2 games as a senior and thats why he was so under recruited, but anyone looking at his film can see that he is without a doubt a D1 athlete and hopefully develops into a solid QB down the road. I wouldn't bet against a kid with that combination of athletic ability and smarts (3.8 GPA).

REMEMBER, this kid was hurt all of his junior year I believe and some of his senior year, this kid is overlooked IMO, his athletic ability is there, we know what CK can do with a QB (see DD junior to senior year)(Masoli's mid season transformation), why not take this kid and see what ya got. He's tall, very fast, good enough arm already. Work on his mechanics, strength, defensive reads, see what you got. I'll bet this kid surprises us, and if nothing else, he's there to push Darren Thomas to get better.

I'll reserve judgement on Hawkins until we actually know where he'll be playing. If he's at QB, he will not be needed right away and can develop under Kelly's tutelage. If he becomes a WR, he has the size and speed to play there; only question mark would be if he can catch the ball with consistency.

I don't think that we can accurately judge Hawkins since he doesn't have a set position. All we know right now is that he is sleeper-type recruit who is very athletic and has some smarts.

Chris Harper was listed as an "Athlete" on Rivals... I suspect their assessment of Hawkins will be the same... (Obviously not as high...)

You're not too far off on their assessment wounded. Here's a quote about Hawkins from Moseley's blog:

Hawkins is another one of those Chris Harper, “good with the ball in his hands” guys. The Ducks are intrigued by him as a quarterback even though his only prep season at the position, last fall, was cut short by injury. Sounds like he might start out at receiver, though.
