MB Press Conference

MB said that there are two JC players out there right now that are dealing with qualifying issues& getting into the U of O. Obviously Tuinie is one & the only other player is Gaines. Is he waiting to se if he can get in, not deciding whether he likes us of the Sooners?

Edit: He said he is expecting one to be resolved today & both are WRs. So I think we can assume Gines wants to be a Duck, he just has to resolve some issues with qualifying & getting into the U of O.

Waiting to see if he can get in maybe... If he can't then maybe his plan B is Oklahoma.

It sounds like Gaines is ours as long as he can get in.. What's up with these JC transfers?? I hope the coaching staff figures out what causing all of this before the next class.

Bellotti said one player is appealing with the NCAA which I imagine is Tueini. The other WR he said could have any issues resolved today. Hopefully its just a little hang up and not a change of heart, even thought Bellotti made it sound like it was just a signing issue.

Just when you thought the Uof O might get through a LOI day with the commits intact...

Go Steal Somebody, Chip!

On a positive note, Bellotti did sound optimistic that Braxton Lane would be playing football and baseball of the UofO. Hopefully he is right.

Yeah Bellotti didn't sound real worried, at least not about him going elsewhere. I'm not real worried after his comments & actually a bit encouraged knowing there's a chance for Tuinei.

Getting both Gaines and Tuinei would be huge for this class and the depth charts. They seem like players that can come in right away and produce in the spread.

As long as we can get both those guys in opposing DB's are going to hate going up against this group of WR. Seriously UO will have 5 guys all over 6'3 and 2 in the 6'6 range thats crazy.

Let's hope they get in, both these guys are beasts and should be great blockers as well!

Just look at the WRs we have; they aren't the small WRs we used to have:
Drew Davis 6'1" 205
Garrett Embry 6'1" 200
Jamere Holland 6'1" 185
Jeff Maehl 6'1" 175
Dion Jordan 6'7" 220
Blake Cantu 6'1" 195
Diante Jackson 6'2" 200
Tyrece Gaines 6'4" 205
Lavasier Tuinei 6'5" 197
Nick Cole 6'3" 185

The only small receivers we'll have are Pflugrad and Lane. Most teams don't have CBs that can cover receivers that big. The best thing about our bigger receivers is that they can really move down the field. It'll be interesting to see how Kelly uses the WRs.

I don't know if I would really say Lane is small though either, the kid is 190 in HS, he could easily get up to 200-210 range by his JR year that's a pretty thick WR though he is on the shorter side at only 5'10.

I remember when if a WR was over 6'1 at UO he was are big guy.

I think that Lane could get away with being shorter since he is such an athlete and is so fast. Pflugrad just doesn't have the speed to get as wide open as Lane could possibly do. Pflugrad does run some of the best routes on the team so he can more than make up for his lack of speed with his crisp routes.

yeah our WR height is looking excellent, i was amazed to see 6'5 Patrick Turner play against Thurmound in the Uo USC match up in 07, he looked like a giant and went for like 100 plus on us. Big and Tall WRs are always fun to watch
