The coaches must see something. Perhaps he's one of those diamond in the rough players.

If we are getting Tuniei and Gaines, then why Cardenas? If not, then I could see it happening.

If he's coming in then it's likely due to a loss of either Gaines or Tuinei. Tuinei would seem the more likely guy to not get in from what little we know. Cardenas appears to be a major fall back guy.

He is actually a 3 star on rivals, not bad. Still, I wonder why he could get in and several other JC players couldn't?

The same reason some high school players qualify and some don't.

Possible good news: there is a poster over on eDuck that has a good rep and he's strongly hinting that Tuinei's LOI (and being admitted) could happen this weekend.
