All those seats. Will they fill it? Hope people go and support
this team. So much better coached. Listened to him last night
on radio and i think he feels the heat to get to the point the
football team is. It will take time. but the guy knows basketball.
This team looks to play much harder then Ernie's teams did the
last few years. Even tho were down on talent we just may steal
a few games. If the football team can climb to the top so can the
basketball team in a hopefully short few years.

I'm in San Diego and our office has season tickets to the SDSU arena. It was packet the first year then drifted off to about 60% full for much of the following seasons. Now that they have a hot team and it is packed again.
It's about the team. Just going to an impressive arena wears off.

Thats my only worry with the arena. Hopefully it isn't half empty every night after that initial excitement wears off. Especially with how spendy tickets are. Besides the GA in the corners & reserved on the one end, you have to make a huge initial donation. No way I can afford that. I'll probably never sit anywhere other than the top $24 sections.

Altman throughout his coaching tenure at Creighton had one of the highest attendance records in the country. I am sure the fans will get excited about Oregon basketball again and pack the house!

I don't think any rational fan actually expects UO basketball to get to where the football team is. Personally I just want to finish in the top 5 of the Pac 10 on a regular basis. Really there isn't to many schools ever who have been dominant in both sports for any length of time. SC with 11mill people within 1.5hrs of campus hasn't been to a final since '54.
If Altman can keep the boosters happy, run a clean program and be competitive year in and out, then he will have a job for a long time at UO. A final 4 or two in his time won't hurt either but I don't think that is a requirement. Just don't have 1 good year followed by 2-3 bad ones and an ok one.
Yeah Florida did win in both sports, but the bball team has sputtered since then. It seems they almost caught lightning in a bottle then just fell back to the pac.

That also coincided with Kentucky becoming a powerhouse again. The whole conference is general has been down.
If I were living in Portland, I'd probably get season tickets. If Altman can make the tourney most years and graduate the majority of his players, I think people will be pretty satisfied.

im sure having a nicer arena than before has played a part in getting better talent to come to sdsu though. mac court is cool, but it looks like a quidditch stadium. thats why i think its cool, actually. huh.

There are a handful of teams that are perennial top-25 programs in both football and basketball.
Ohio State seems like they are always in the top 10 of both sports, plus the aforementioned Gators, Pitt, West Virgina, Michigan State, and Texas come to mind.
Also I think Altman's attendance record at Creighton probably has more to do with the fact that there is literally nothing else to do in the middle of Nebraska. Oregon has top tier football and track programs and a baseball program that is quickly becoming a national contender.

Top-notch facilities can only help improve the program, but a good coach who can also recruit under any circumstances is key.
