Nick Allioti... does he retain job after Kelly

I am curious what people think about Allioti and whether Chip Kelly will keep him. I believe he is under contract till 2010 or 2011. Something am not fond of considering I personally think is not a good DC. Any ideas who Kelly might go after if Allioti is not in picture.

From what I understand he will retain his job. Don't judge me, but i was talking to some ducks on facebook (Paysinger, Turner, and a few others) and they said that some of his schemes are legit, and in the next few years they will finally have the speed and strength to execute. I, personally, am not a huge fan of him, but he is a dang good recruiter, which is probably why CK will hold on to him. Only time will tell...

I think the first question is, does Kelly like Alliotti's defense? A couple of times he has been quoted as being fond of Nick, but who knows how Kelly really feels.
If Kelly does respect Nick as a person, but doesn't like his defense, maybe they will sit down when the time comes and discuss how Kelly wants the defense to look and perform. I think that is what is going to happen. Kelly will try to shape the defense to what he prefers. If Nick doesn't like it for some reason, he'll leave or Kelly will ask him to leave. I just find it hard to believe that when Kelly becomes HC he doesn't tweak anything on defense.
Edit: Good point greg, which I forgot to mention is that he is a good recruiter.

If his schemes are really legit, it's time for the players to execute. Without a solid offense last season, our record wouldn't have been nearly as good. We need to take some pressure off of the offense. We'll see how Allioti does this year, especially with the losses of guys like Chung and Byrd. Personally, I would rather have a good coach than a good recruiter. Oregon State always seems to get 1 and 2 star players on defense, yet their defense has been better than Oregons for awhile.

He was pretty succesful in his first stint here but that was with a HC with a different philospohy then MB had. I am not a fan of Alliotti but I can't take that away from him. It will be interesting to see if the there is a big philosophy shift with CK as the HC. Will it no longer be bend and don't break or since we should be ahead in so many games do we ATTACk, ATTACK, ATTACK?

From everything that I have read, Allioti and Kelly get along very well, so I see no reason for Alliotti to feel unwanted. But it wouldn't suprise me if Allioti only stays on for a year or two after Bellotti leaves and moves in to an administrative postion like the old line coach, Zomboukas. Also if Bellotti takes a job in the NFL or at another college, I think Allioti will follow him wherever he goes.
While Allioti has his critics, I think he is doing about as good as job as you can with the talent that Oregon has on defense. While Oregon has some talent on defense, the Ducks lack the quality depth and talent at all levels (ie DL, LB, DB) to execel on defense. Take a look at UW last year. All of the Huskies fans thought just because they brought in a DC with NFL experiance, there defense was going to improve over night. When in fact they were worst last year than in previous years.

If Allioti was going to be fired, it would have happened already. He has too much tenure and is well liked amongst the coaching staff... They may make "adjustments" to some degree depending on the personel available, but I would bet he goes no where unless its his choice.

I agree completely!
I agree with above posts...NA is know as a good recruiter and while he has pulled in some goods ones his track record isn't all that great (we've had too many down years on D) and I will add the ones he does pull in are not coached up to their potentials!
ANd I have to ask why can we not have both a great Coache and Recruiter?
GO DUCKS!!

The one good thing about Aliotti is he makes good half-time adujustments...Like in the Holiday Bowl...Okie St. ran a bunch of option in the first half which they hadn't run all year and that was what killed us the whole half...In the second half we completely shut the option and also with that their offense down...Including a big 4th down stop and TJ's big hit on Robinson...That adjustment was the difference in the game in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that it was in Allioti's gameplan for TJ to wreck Robinson, that just happened because TJ is an absolute animal.

Alliotti's biggest weakness is adjustments One game against Okie St. where their QB had a separated shoulder does not make him good with adjustments.

I also think one of the adjustments made was having CK call O and D

The answer is that NA is NOT Going anywhere. And I would agree that NA does make good half time adjustments..and he does well with bye weeks. Which leads me to conclude that his schemes are very intense and confusing, and if executed properly work, but if not executed to perfection, they look miserable. Which is why when our players have 2 weeks to learn the material, they get it. And when halftime rolls around, I can bet that the lets the players know they aren't doing it right and then they remember. He is good at on-the-spot coaching.
