I am a little bit curious why Rivals..Scout.. and ESPN are all showing USC with 22 verbal committments. My understanding was that they could only have 15 scholarships given out this year because of thr scholarship limitations put on them byt eh NCAA. Anyone care to clear this thing up for me would be much gratly appreciated. I know some might enroll early but at this point would still have to be at least 7.

They have at least ten already enrolling early. Can't remember the number. Might even be 15.

The ealry enrolees are counting towards their class last year. With all of the transfers and I believe and small class last year, they have a lot of spots for the early guys.

The real question for me is this: Without sanctions, how many of these early enrolee players would they have gone after at all? I think they may be going after a few guys that never would have been offered under "normal circumstances".

They appealed the scholarship reductions so the sanctions are delayed until after the hearing.

The Trojans, who received a two-year bowl ban and a loss of 30 scholarships over three three years, are looking to have those sanctions cut in half. USC already served the first year of its bowl ban while the scholarship reductions will go into effect beginning next season.

When the hearing happens, the NCAA has some really bad precedent now because USC has claimed all along that they didn't know about what Reggie was doing, much like AU says they knew nothing about what Cecil was doing. Consider that Kenny Rogers is comparable to the guy that the ncaa pinned their case against SC on and they may serve a 1 year suspension and thats it.

I think you can only take 9 early enrollments per year. I also think USC is going to sign 20 fall recruits in 2011 in hope the ban is reduced but if not they will get hit really hard the following years. So USC will probably have 29 new recruits on the field next fall. Since they are losing an average number of seniors and only had somewhere around 70 scholarship players this past fall they will still be short around 10-15 "true" scolarship players.

they did it earlier this year with Masoli's transfer eligibility

Again, the ncaa's entire case (mind you, this was under wade, not emmert) is based upon the testimony of 1 guy whose story has changed multiple times ala kenny rogers. SC will argue that since things did occur that was beyond their knowledge and because they've already served a 1 year bowl ban that this should be the end of the punishment. I think they've got a pretty good shot at it, too.

The NCAA can always respond to USC that they are simply waiting for more Cam Newton info and then will act on that situation.

Their response to USC will speak volumes to their future intentions with Auburn.

It appears that the NCAA is waiting for the FBI info to come out so they can have the full picture of what has gone on at AU before making a premature decision.

If they say, sorry USC we love you so much we are going to drop the penalties; then expect nothing to ever come of the AU shenanigans.

I have a hunch that SC just might get the penalties eased a little bit. I agree they have established precedent recently.
