The 2009 SF Giants Thread
Noticed a few Giants fans on here so I figured I'd get some discussion going. Pray for run support!

Re: The 2009 SF Giants Thread
I think the Giants might win the west this year. They have a very good starting rotation, added a few guys for the bullpen, added Renteria and have some nice young players on offense like Sandoval and Lewis. My Padres on the other hand........

Yah the rotation should be solid. If Johnson can pitch ok and Lowry throws like he did in 2007 things should be good. Zito finished strong so I'm curious to see how he starts out. I hope they don't trade Cain. Renteria should be a solid addition. I still think they are one consistent bat away from really pushing for the west.

They won't trade Cain, he and Lincecum are the future of the franchise

I agree but all the news reports have Sabean contemplating it for a bat. He's trying to package some of the vets for a bat to try to avoid trading Matt.

Re: The 2009 SF Giants Thread
I heard that they were probably going to wait a while before looking for any trades. The thought being that some teams that are having trouble economically this coming season may need to dump payroll.
I just hope that Sabean can learn a new trick (not trading all of our up and coming talent away for Sidney Ponson, etc, etc, etc.)

If they can get one big stick and the big unit can mentor the young arms the Giants could really make some noise this year. Is there any chance they make a push for Manny Ramirez?

Re: The 2009 SF Giants Thread
I think the longer MannY stays unsigned the better shot the Giants have. However, it's a super remote chance.
Did anyone see the Uribe signing? Minor League contract w/ spring training invite. Signing a utility middle infielder to me says they aren't confident with the progress of Frandsen coming back from the injury.

Unfortunately, I think Manny will go back to the Dodgers. The Giants might be in on Joe Crede, although I don't think he is the bat to take them to the next level.

Re: The 2009 SF Giants Thread
If his back's healthy Crede can play. We had him here in Birmingham for 2 years when he was coming up and he got hurt his first season and tore up the league in his second year. He also had an outstanding year for the Sox when they won the World Series. Remember his back has been a mess for the last two seasons but when healthy he can hit for power, drive in runs and play top notch defense.
