@AuburnRivals: Auburn junior quarterback Cam Newton will forgo his senior season and make himself eligible for the 2011 National Football League Draft.

Not surprised in the least though.

Fairley is expected to make an announcement tomorrow morning, we expect him to go pro as well.

Not a rude duh intended, but a duh none the less. If I was Cam Newton being the center of all these allegations and just having won the natty i would do the same damn thing

Didn't take it as a rude comment, and I completely agree.

After being drug through the mud by every media outlet for a few months, I'd be ready to get out too. As an Auburn fan, I'm sad to see him go, but I'm also relieved that we won't have to hear about the drama all year long next season.

Also, we're losing 80% of our offensive line as well. We're going to be a young team next season, and I'm fine with that. I don't know many Auburn fans that think we'll repeat this season...hell, it didn't hit me until midway through this past season that we'd have a shot at the BCS title game.

2012 though...look out. 8-)

Oh I bet you still hear about it all year. It should be lessened a bit with him gone though.

I'm sure it'll be mentioned here and there, but it won't be dwelled on as much. Thayer, Thamel, and Schad will have to find another team or player to persecute.

Just saw on ESPN that they had Cam evaluated lower than, you guessed it, the savior of UW football Jake Locker!! Mind blowing...

I can't imagine ANYONE that would take Locker over Cam as a QB. Cam may come with more baggage but not THAT much more baggage. Locker has been flat out terrible and has one winning season. Cam has been unstoppable.

Hearing that Darvin Adams may go pro as well.

Cam Newton = Chad Johnson. I doubt that staying was ever even on the table.

It'll really be interesting to see how Auburn does with Newton gone. Are they still even a top 25 team? Could we see a 4 or 5 loss Auburn team?

We're losing a lot of seniors, including 80% of our offensive line. Our o-line coach is being interviewed by Texas, and it's sounding like he's going to take the job.

Combine those factors with a tough away schedule, it wouldn't surprise me if we wound up with 4 or 5 losses.

Like I said, 2012 will probably be a better year than 2011.

Barrett Trotter will be our starting QB most likely. Of course he's not Cam, but he can throw some lazers and can scoot around in the pocket. He's better than a mediocre Chris Todd, who started the 2009 season...who was breaking Auburn records. If our young o-line can provide the holes, Dyer might have a great sophomore season.

True, but you have a talented running game, and recruiting is still strong. I think like you said, a year of rebuilding and Auburn will be back as a contender. Who's taking over at QB?

Edited my post above to include the starting QB. We've also got Kiehl Frazier coming in who, based on high school highlights, is very similar to Cam. He won't be the starter though. A true freshman starting against some SEC defenses would get his block knocked off. Trotter has been around a lot longer to learn Malzahn's offense, so he'll be behind center-I'm certain of it.
