Auburn investigation continues
Dennis Lorio, Thibodaux High School's former football coach, said he was interviewed for 45 minutes by one of two NCAA investigators who visited him Monday. Robinson was also interviewed by an NCAA investigator for “a couple of hours” and Robinson’s mother was also interviewed, according to Lorio...
Lorio said the NCAA investigator who interviewed him asked if he believed Auburn had committed NCAA violations in its recruitment of Robinson, who signed with the national champion Tigers earlier this month. Robinson and Reed, who redshirted as a freshman this past season, were both primarily recruited by Trooper Taylor, Auburn’s assistant head coach.
“I can’t say what Auburn did because I don’t know and I wasn’t involved very much,” Lorio said Wednesday. “I really don’t know truthfully.”
“My answer is what went on with Greg’s recruitment, you’re going to have ask Trooper Taylor, Greg, his parents and, I believe, Sean Nelson. I don’t have any more answers because I don’t know.”
In December, Lorio told FOXSports.com that several coaches and students saw Robinson show off cash and a new iPhone at school after making an unofficial visit to Auburn earlier in the year.

She (Robinson's Grandmother, Lydia) said Auburn's coaches "weren't very intelligent" and was especially critical of Taylor, who she says "got a lot of lies in there when he was talking."

But Mark Emmert wishes there was something he could do to stop, really, he does. Except, well, you know, enforce actual code as it pertains to the ncaa and sec.duckgrad99 wrote:As long as his parents commited the violation and not him everything is fine.

This is just another smear piece by Thayer Evans. Notice that every other article says "Fox Sports is reporting..." because theres no real evidence to support any of it. Thayer is infamous amongst Texas fans for getting fired by the NYT for making stuff up in the past specifically regarding recruiting and its only a matter of time before hes found out again. The question is whether or not foxsports.com has as much journalistic integrity as the NYT and fires his ass.

The NYT doesn't have that much journalistic integrity so foxsports.com won't follow through.JohnnyAuburn wrote:This is just another smear piece by Thayer Evans. Re: Auburn investigation continues
Here's what Lorio has said as of Thursday:
http://www.houmatoday.com/article/20110 ... bodaux-duoTHIBODAUX – The NCAA questioned former Thibodaux High football coach Dennis Lorio and other individuals earlier this week regarding Auburn’s recruitment of two of his former players, according to online reports on FoxSports.com and USAToday.com.
Two NCAA investigators questioned Lorio for a “couple of hours” about possible recruiting violations involving Trovon Reed and Greg Robinson. He was asked if he believed that Auburn committed NCAA violations during the recruiting process.
Lorio said he believes Auburn committed no violations.
“Do I believe that Auburn has done anything wrong with their recruiting? My answer has been no,” Lorio said during a phone interview on Thursday. “I don’t think there was anything illegally done with their recruiting. I’m not aware of anything.”

Auburn is basically O.J. We all know they did it. They may not get punished formally, but like O.J. these things have a way of catching up to people anyway. I have no ill will toward Auburn fans who come here, one supposes, to see if we are crowing about this. The fans are not guilty of paying their players (well, MOST fans aren't, anyway), but unfortunately for them, their team cheats to gain recruits. If I was an Auburn fan, it would bother me, and I would probably be going around the internet doing damage control, just like the fans in this thread are doing. For fans with a conscience, this has to take a little bit away from their victory, and that sucks, but there it is.

Re: Auburn investigation continues
Just throwing this out there, but Auburn still has yet to receive an official letter of investigation from the NCAA. They didn't get one during the Cam saga and they haven't gotten one for the recruitment of Reed and Robinson. You can choose to believe what you want though.
The best you could do is ignore the Brooks, Thamels, and Evanses of the sports world. They have one prerogative and it's trashing Auburn whenever they can with or without any facts.

I don't want to be mean at all, but you would have to ignore a lot more than a few rogue columnists to believe that Auburn is running a clean program. including fairly recent documented history and the testimony of two head coaches from the early 90's. I don't 'believe what I want', I believe what the overwhelming evidence points toward. We are in the same conference as USC and UW, so we know how it works. I understand that you have to fight the doubt in your own mind by pointing to the 'official letter' thing, but I am not bound by the same unconditional loyalty to Auburn that you are.
No hard feelings, though. It's just a game, after all, at least for most of us.

Showing an espn poll of what people feel doesn't correlate to AU having done something wrong, its simply those peoples own perceptions which Icculus is arguing is jaded.Phalanx wrote:http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flash ... lId=105378Icculus wrote:Just throwing this out there, but Auburn still has yet to receive an official letter of investigation from the NCAA. As far as the "official letter," we currently (or so we think? i'm lost now) are under investigation for our BB team, in particular our former C Michael Dunigan, and as George Schroeder pointed out in today's Register Guard, the UO has not received that letter from the NCAA yet. He does bring up how schools hide behind FERPA laws so it could be that, or perhaps the ncaa is hamstrung by their own rules somehow once they've "officially begun" an investigation.
However you see it, it does seem out of place that neither AU or UO have received the "official letters" for what seems like obvious investigations that have occurred on some level. Then again, nobody's ever accused the ncaa of being consistent.

I haven't bothered to get into the details enough to judge whether or not Auburn the football program is complicit in wrong-doing.
However, it has been established that Cam Newton's father shopped him around. The notion that Cam Newton wasn't aware of this is laughable. Auburn may not be a dirty program. But, Cam Newton is his own story.

Re: Auburn investigation continues
I never purported to use the espn poll as evidence of anything except that we are not the only ones who believe that Auburn is a tainted program, it is the predominant view across the country. I did not not bring up the actual evidence again, it is printed all over the internet and needs not be rehashed for the upteenth time. If you still think O.J is innocent, then great. Most people don't. It doesn't really matter, it's almost a surety that they will be acquitted by the NCAA, especially if the ridiculous ruling on Cam's father is any indication.Duck07 wrote: Showing an espn poll of what people feel doesn't correlate to AU having done something wrong, its simply those peoples own perceptions which Icculus is arguing is jaded.

I think it's silly to compare the investigations of Auburn and Oregon. Auburn used the (allegedly) ill-gotten players to win a championship. We don't know what the NCAA is investigating with Oregon, if anything at all. What allegations are there? Where are the numerous stories bubbling up? Where is the smoke indicating fire? Not even close to comparable.

Re: Auburn investigation continues
The Reggie Bush story broke in Spring of 2006, yet the NCAA didn't send an "Official Letter of Inquiry" until two years later. The Newton allegations are what, four months old? Still a long way to go on this one.Icculus wrote:Just throwing this out there, but Auburn still has yet to receive an official letter of investigation from the NCAA.
