Re: Cal @ Oregon
This game is a must win for a couple of reason. 1 for positioning for the Pac-10 tourney and 2 because for UO to make the NIT I figure we have to win 3 of the last 4 and at least 1 game in the tourney but probably 2. That would get us to 18-19 wins, and that should be enough for the NIT to take us

Re: Cal @ Oregon
I only now realized that Cal beat UCLA in OT yesterday, ending the Bears' four game losing streak. I'd say that the level of difficulty for this game has just been increased for the Ducks, as any team will have more confidence after a win. Hoping for a REALLY REALLY loud Matt Thu. night.
In terms of placement in the Pac-10 Tourney, I'm not going to worry too much whether the Ducks finish 4th or 5th overall since 4 plays 5. Of course, the winner of 4-5 will probably play 1 the next game, so it may not actually be benefitting the Ducks, as far as the conference tourney goes, to finish so strongly. And if they were to fall all the way to 6, that probably means they lost a game or two that we didn't expect them to, a loss of momentum that we definitely don't want going into the post-season. I doubt any of us expect them to win the conference tourney, but it's pretty fun to watch this team and see just how far they can go . . .

Re: Cal @ Oregon
Well, if we drop to 6 and beat the #10 team, then we play the #1 seed in the next game. By getting 4th or 5th, we get a bye in the first round, play the 4/5 game followed by the #1 v 6/10 winner. So if we end up 4/5, we'd play the #1 in the semi's followed by presumably the #2 in the finals rather than playing the #1 in the quarterfinals.Greenblood wrote:I only now realized that Cal beat UCLA in OT yesterday, ending the Bears' four game losing streak. Is SC not eligible again this year? The #6 seed should be playing the #3 in the quarterfinals, the #7 plays the #10.

Re: Cal @ Oregon
Actually the #7 team plays #10 team and #8 plays #9. Which means if the ducks get to 6 or higher then they get a bye for the first night. and then the winner of the 8/9 game plays the number 1 seed and the winner of the 7/10 game plays the #2 seed (4 play 5 and 3 play 6 on the second night). If we assume that the ducks make it to day three and that the #1 and #2 seeds make it through these are the possible scenarios:Duck07 wrote:Well, if we drop to 6 and beat the #10 team, then we play the #1 seed in the next game. If the ducks are a 4 or 5 seed (and make it through) they will play the number 1 team on Friday.
If the ducks are 6 seed then they will play the #2 seed on Friday.
hope that makes sense.

Re: Cal @ Oregon
Cal's win over UCLA last night didn't really change my opinion of the Golden Bears. They're an okay team, but really young. They beat UCLA because they played in Berkeley and Jorge Gutierrez is fast as s*** and UCLA is slow, slow, slow (but tall, I guess). Gutierrez simply drove past Anderson, Honeycutt, Reeves, whoever, all night, and scored 26.
He gave us some trouble in our first meeting, too, but if we play smarter we should be able to neutralize him. He shot a horrific 2/11 from the field in the first game, but ended up with 17 because he went to the FT line 14 times.

Gutierrez was on fire last night, we need to shut him down. If we hold him to 17 or less I think we win by 10, he's pretty much the entire Cal offense.

Re: Cal @ Oregon
Oregon just needs a similar shooting performance from the last couple of games to make this game winnable. Oregon didn't shoot all that well early against Cal in the first game, which forced them to come from behind most of the game.

Hard to disagree with that, we shoot 50% from deep with our defense I'll take our chances against anyone in the Pac-10.

The difference in the confidence this team plays with now from the beginning of the season is remarkable. I mean really....
