Nebraska Fires Mike Riley
This was pretty much a given. I feel bad for the guy. I have a feeling that he went into this gig looking at Nebraska as being a place that with their tradition, would be easier to recruit to than Oregon State, but it didn't work out that way, obviously.
I still think he's a good coach, but just not an elite one. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

Kinda expected this to happen. He'll probably now go and retire down in TX where he has a piece of property.

I think he'll still have opportunities if he wants to continue to coach. You never know, he might get a shot at the WSU job if Mike Leach leaves, which is a good possibility. He could also go back to the NFL as an assistant. Of course, there's the Mid-Major school route, as well.greenyellow wrote:Kinda expected this to happen. I can't imagine why he would want to keep coaching at this point, or why any major school would want him. He just seems out of ideas and spent. He's a really nice guy and I wish him well in his life, but unless he wants to coach at a mid-major where his experience will give him a certain level of gravitas, I just don't see him being successful.

Riley is 64 so I could easily see him retiring, especially now that he has grandkids and starting over is probably not something he wants to do again.SuperDuck wrote:I think he'll still have opportunities if he wants to continue to coach. I know people who have worked with Riley and they say he doesn't cuss but he's no saint.
I think he game passed him by.

well there are many who tho think it is a real possibility. Leaches old boss is at Neb now so not outside the realm of possibilitykarlhungis wrote:srduck wrote:Leach to Nebraska is a possibility.

Re: Nebraska Fires Mike Riley
And that's the only reason people speculate. Nebraska does not want to switch to an air raid offense, they have fired coaches that put up records that Leach is getting praise for in Pullman, and they are all in on Scott Frost. I just don't see Leach even being interested in the job.srduck wrote:well there are many who tho think it is a real possibility. I would take that bet. Absolutely ZERO to be gained there.pdxduck2013 wrote:I bet Oregon State would take him back...
