92 Small Forwards

Top 5 Small Forwards

Grant Hill C+ C+ C+ C+ C A

Between Bobby Hurley and Christian Laettner, Grant Hill's star burned brightly. He stepped up to the challenge and defended the best player on the opposing side every game and did all the little things to win. Hill played a critical spot of defending that caused Chris Webber to try and call a timeout Michigan didn't have during the title game to seal the game. These little things are what made hill so valuable in grabbing Duke's 1st national Championship. He is extremely polished both inside and from the wing. His outside shot can come and go but his free-throw line extended work is 1st rate. He is a very pesky defender, playing way larger than hi 6'5", lithe frame should allow. Good but not exceptional defender his high motor lead to more than a few offensive boards where he simply out worked his matchup. Great size and strength for his position, scout only knock on him is they wonder about his maturity by coming out after only his sophomore year.

Walt Williams C+ B C- C+ C A

Very polished swingman out of Maryland. He played a ton of Power Forward in college but may find he is stuck between the 3 and 4 in the association. With his height, he tends to have a very flat shot but find great success with it from the corner. Classic spot-up shooter and has very good hands. Played the 4 out, 1 in offense at Maryland and excelled at being the pivot man at the top of the key and making pinpoint passes along the cutting lanes. Scouts love his frame as a tall 3, but worry that his lack of mobility may limit his production. He needs some work on his footwork but he has improved it every year in college so he should be able to do the same at the next level.

Marcus Webb B- D+ F+ C C A

Prolific player out of the University of Alabama. He walked away with the league scoring title and look unstoppable for large stretches of the season. Had he not run into the Duke buzz-saw, who knows just how far he could have taken the Crimson Tide. He is a slasher extrodionaire. One rock-step from the high post or outside and then is blurr of a first step blows by you for the finish. Coupling this with his height at 6'9", he towered over other college wings as he often forced defenses to go zone. When this happened he had to post up and was only ok when he was forced to go up against true 4 and 5 men in the posts. As zone is prohibited in the NBA, he should excel.

Jim Jackson C B- C C+ C- A

Really polished outside-focused wing out of Ohio State. He led his team by example, taking on the best the opposing team had to offer and also knocking down the big shots. Very good at playing two ways and very NBA ready. He takes great care of himself and tough as he never missed a game his entire career. He has a great looking 3-pt stroke coupled with a very pesky defensive pressure led his buckeyes to the Elite Eight. There he shut down Jalen Rose of the Michigan Fab Five but Howard, Webber, Jackson and King did whatever they wanted for long stretches of the game. Even still the Buckeyes only lost by 4 after to late fouling to try and extend the game. His departure will be a sore blow to Ohio State.

Tracy Murray C+ C+ C- B- C- A

The UCLA prospect was one of the biggest reason for UCLA's elite eight run. He was the best player on the floor and hit a neigh uncountable big shots for the Bruins this season. He cleaned up from the free throw line, hitting nearly ninety percent his last season, though his college career average was around eighty. Elite strength for his position, he loved to outmuscle his opposition and set devastating picks against smaller guards. He is willing to take any shot any time against anyone, but scouts worry this attitude may get him into trouble at the next level if he tries to go solo against more polished wings.

Other Small Forward Prospects:

Ron Ellis C C+ D- C+ C+ B

Stretch 4 out of Louisiana Tech. Played a ton of minutes at Power Forward in college but his rebounding and quickness combo will likely mean he will find a home at the small forward spot in the pros. Good outside shooter and inside finisher. Explosive above the rime and played way above his size. Excellent outside defender. Not exceptional potential, but very solid.

Sam Mack B- C C C+ C- A

Slasher out of the SWC contender Houston. While he lost in the first round after a spirited game with the sweet-sixteen squad Georgia Tech, he had a great season and honestly the entire Houston squad played like they were happy to just be there. He was solid from the line but could never get his outside shoot to fall properly. Very tricky finisher.

Stephen Howard C C D- C+ C+ A

Defensive specialist out of DePaul. While his offensive game never could seem tog et going, he was extremely good on the defensive side and has enough strength and rebounding to play the stretch 4 role. While scouts think he is not a starter, once he moves to the 4 slot they are convinced he will grow into a solid contributor off the bench.

Arijan Komazec C+ C- C- C+ C+ A

Huge contributor to the Croatian national team in Olympic Qualifying. While most of the talent stayed loyal, Komazec did not and started against much more polished professionals and blew the critic away. He was the reason they finished in the last qualifying slot and will be making the trip to Barcelona latter this summer. While he does not do much of any work beyond the 3, plays very well on the low block and is one of the best dunkers in Europe. Scouts love his prototypical frame but worry he may be a little on the light side but a little work on the bench press should easily alleviate any strength issues.
