98 Small Forwards

Top 5 1998 Small Forwards

Antawn Jamison B C+ F+ C+ C A

Jamison is a prolific scorer out of North Carolina. During his time there he came just short of surpassing Air Jordan's marks for career scoring numbers. This is often attributed to his lack of passing as when the ball was swung to him, rarely did it leave his hands. While this led to man a classic: "no no no no dont take that nonono yeeeeeeees!" moments for those in the crowd. He plays great defense and while not the best defender in this class, always sought to lead by example by guarding the best player on the opposing side. Scouts love his inside post game and his outside ability is nothing to sneeze at either. Loaded with potential.

Rashard Lewis: B- C+ C- C C+ A

Lewis is a high school phenom. He has put up thirty points per game and really was never challenged during his entire career so far. Scouts love his outside from and his lithe body seems made to play the cornerman role. He is loaded with potential, if only his defensive game were so. He well sized for the small forward but his strength really limited him when he went up against stronger power forwards at the combine. He still has a very mature footwork on the boxout for his age and he has plenty of room to grow.

Vince Carter A- C C+ C C- A

Vincanity has finally arrived. This kid is a monster around the rim and can absolutely fly. He scores in bunches around there and might as well start paying rent on the rim as he lives there. Excellent with the ball in his hands, he rarely makes mistakes despite occupying so much possession during his young career. Carter is not a great defender nor rebounder as he never has done a lot of work on his footwork. Great upside and the records at the dunk contest should be very afraid, very afraid indeed.

Bonzi Wells C+ C+ C- C+ C A

Bonzi is a versatile wingman out of the small school of Ball State. He had very successful career averaging nearly 22ppg in college. He was exceptionally deadly with his deepball, to a clip of nearly .400. He is exceptionally quick and recovers off screens with the best of them. His main struggles are at the free-throw line, but that may be more of a mental issue than a form issue. Reckless finisher at the rim who loves throw it down against much larger opponents. Scouts think he has a bright future ahead.

Greg Buckner C+ C D C C+ B

The guard out of clemson was the unquestioned leader of his squad this last year. He typified the physical, brusing style that has typified the SEC these past few season. When driving Buckner doesn't go around you he goes through you. He has a great pull up jumper and a developing deep game. Kinda selfish, but he never seems to lose control of the ball, so his coaches have never dissuaded this tendency. Scout think he has solid potential but wonder if he may struggle at time when elevates to a level where he cannot simply go through everyone.
