I noticed that he, and along with a couple of our more recent football commits, keep getting the school name wrong as he said "Oregon University." I think that they are getting confused because of the way Oklahoma is known as OU but is really the University of Oklahoma. It's not that big a deal though since he helps Altman's first full recruiting class in a very big way.

Only thing that may have me worried is him decommiting because we will not do so good this year. But he does sound very strong on his commitment.

Basketball recruits have an early signing period in November, so our year shouldn't affect his commitment. Well unless he decides to wait to sign.

Sadly, that was also one of my first thoughts. However, Matt wrote up an excellent piece of Brown and has some promising quotes from him.

"I decided that it was the best fit for me overall and I really got along with the coaching staff at Oregon," explained Brown over the phone just moments after he committed on TV.

"I went up to Oregon for the big football game and a lot of people didn't know I was there and I had to say it played a huge part in my decision," admitted Brown. "I got a chance to see how the town got around their team and support them," said Brown. "That was huge for me. I wanted somewhere that I knew the fans would be behind you and support you. Plus that game was crazy."

Even though Oregon is coming off two down seasons an an off-season that many want to forget Brown saw something he liked.

"Oregon basketball has been good in the past and will be good in the future," said Brown. "I want to be part of that group that takes the program from the bottom of the league to the top and I think coach Dana Altman has put together something that has a chance to do it."

Brown stated he's excited to get to Eugene and has noticed who also has committed to Oregon.

"I just can't wait to get up there and get to work with the rest of the guys who they have committed," said Brown. "I know they needed some guards and while I haven't talked with the other two Brett Kingma and Bruce Barron I know they are some good players and it's just the start."

A big selling point over the weekend was the new Jaqua Academic Center that is next to the new Matt Knight Arena.

"My family and I checked both those buildings out and they were very impressive for me but also a for my family," admitted Brown. "My mom really liked the Jaqua Center because of how close it was to school and all it could offer. The stadium is unreal."

Brown is widely considered to be one of the nation's best recruits for the 2011 class and will join fellow commits Austin Kuemper, Brett Kingma, and Bruce Barron for the 2011 class. All four plan on signing their Letters of Intent in November.

I don't think there's any writer who does a better job at covering Oregon basketball recruiting than Matt.

Watching that video it hit me just how big of a get this is. We are nowhere near the other teams he was considering. New no name coach that hasn't even coached a game here & just the terrible state of our team. We pretty much were huge underdogs & pulled the upset. And I didn't even realize how good he really was. Just unbelievable job by Altman & the staff.

And as far as him decommitting, I don't think there's anything to worry about. He already knows Oregon bball sucks right now. Thats a big reason hes coming, to be the guy who turns it around. Plus the early signing period will lock him up early.

I am far more excited about guys who are looking for a challenge, than guys like Jones, who are looking for a winner to showcase themselves on.

Really nowhere near ASU and UW in basketball? Maybe over the last 2 years, but overall as a program we are even with UW, and above ASU. Really what has ASU ever done in basketball? Nothing, they have sucked for so long it's not funny. The only reason they did anything at all is because the rest of the Pac-10 was so bad the last few years.

In 2 years UO will have a starting lineup of Armstead, Brown, Singler, Jacob and hopefully another stud FR. That to me looks like a team that will challenge for a NCAA berth. Things may have been bleak just a month ago, but Altman and his staff are working hard to get this ship righted ASAP.

Oh I agree with you there. I was talking about teams like UCONN & Kansas.

He sounds like he's happy with his decision and will sign early with Oregon. Most players who make a commitment this early will sign their LOIs now instead of waiting.

I assume you mean in a year because both Armstead and Jacob are juniors.

I think the guy that some people are forgetting about is Jon Loyd. Loyd has a chance to be a very solid point guard. Bruce Barron also looks like he could be a beast.

I think Teondre Williams may surprise some people this year. I'm kind of glad that Longmire won't be competing for minutes with Williams because Longmire was an inefficient scorer and a severely overrated defender. It's a real shame that we lost Dunigan and Jamil Wilson, but that's water under the bridge.
