AFCA proposal for an early signing day

Post by sjducks »

sometime during the 3rd week of december, according to espn.com (http://myespn.go.com/s/conversations/show/story/3825882).

I am all about an early signing day, any thoughts?

Gray and Pflugrad are there. I think it's a good idea. I'm sure the AA (under armour,Army) games won't like it, might steal their thunder for the hat thing during games.

Its an interesting argument...

I like the fact that we can steal guys at the end but the same can happen to us...

Our coaches are going to have learn to close quicker as well! But that's just a philosophy change.

As long as the early signing day is not in the summer....? That would hurt us I think!

The key is that its not before summer. Lots of the schools in recruiting hot beds almost fill up before the season even starts as recruits can drive just a few hours to get to the campus. Oregon lands almost all their recruits due to official visits.

I agree that it should be sometime towards the end of the season to allow recruits official visits during the playing season. The way NCAA basketball signing goes there's an early and late signing period and I feel that this would translate well in getting some guys on board early so there is less "swooping" of recruits by other schools before the Feb. signing date.

LOI's are the most one sided contracts that exist... Kids should not have to sign them until February... Too much coaching turnover and Kids are making a huge decision they are essentially locked into...

I agree somewhat D1, but if a kid is so unsure of what is going to happen then dont sign until Feb signing day. That said, I believe if a coach that is your main recruiter is let go or leaves that should allow you to break that option.

Think about having guys visit Eugene in summer rather than winter though...

I think for our sake hopefully that would change and they can visit earlier. We always snag the majority of recruits on visits and we really seem to make them consider us more seriously after visiting, so i would hope that would change.
