Damn... I'm beginning to wonder just a little about offering these diamond in the rough kids. To only have 15-17 schollies to give out is going to be frustrating.

Thats my early guess but we should know a better idea going into Spring ball and seeing if any players leave the program and an even better idea come fall camp.

Reason I bring this is up is because 2010 is going to be our banner year as the west is loaded with talent and we are in on some national guys as well and we will have a very limited amount of offers to give next season.
How many scholarships do you expect Oregon to have next season?
Mops said 17 most likely. But as little as 15 is a real possibility.
Looking at the roster, there looks to only be 14 scholarship players that are seniors. So that means the coaches expect some early departures, some transfers, and/or players not qualifying. Next year's class has to be filled with quality players to make up for the lack of quantity.

Wow I thought we had "the normal 25" but of course I forgot about all those other factors! 15-17 DAMN!

We will have to be very picky...

I think that we can afford to be choosy because there are a lot of recruits who are going to be highly rated and are very interested in Oregon. I think one recruit we have to get in O.O. from David Douglas in Portland. We need to land the best players in the state before going out-of-state.

I think it also shows what the coaches think of these lower rated guys we got this year...they may not be so much "Diamonds" but "Over-looked" other wise why would they waste a spot! So I think they are better than we think...

True, but 2 players have already committed, so does that mean Oregon will only have 13 players to take in next year's class besides White and Grant? That's kind of scary, and makes this class even more important in terms of getting the most out of these diamond in the rough players, because they are here at the expense of potential 4 stars in next years class. Still hoping Metcalf can be swayed to come to Oregon and play with his cousin.

Having less than normal scholarships is a bummer especially in a year like 2010 where there are lots of kids looking at Oregon, a loaded west coast talent base, and most depressing is the fact that if we had a normal class we'd be offering 4 kids IMO without a doubt from Oregon.

However, the other side of the story is that a lot of talented players are very interested in Oregon and with fact we have so little room we can be very picky and also put pressure on recruits to commit early or their spot will be gone shortly.

There is always a good side of being short on offers and even in this type of year.

Yes, I guess I didn't think about it that way now that you mention it. Putting "pressure" on the elite kids to commit early could work out in our favor here. Malcolm Jones would be an important get ASAP if Brown doesn't come to Oregon.

I do think that some are of our sleeper recruits are better than they seem. I forget who posted it, but they posted saying a Rivals mod said Hawkins would have been a 3-star recruit had he been listed as an athlete instead of as a QB. Cole looks really good in the video clips that have been posted and is fast enough to finish second to Avery Patterson in a the hurdles. Arden looks to be underranked since he just moved to CA from AZ in the past year and didn't go to many of the big camps to get noticed. Wade the DT from Hawaii was said to be the best DL from there this season and was being looked at by several big name schools before committing to Oregon. This class didn't have the stars from the ranking services but performed well on the field to justify the coaches giving them a scholarship.

And performing on the field is worth a heck of a lot more than stars from the recruiting services!! :D

A little film on him - I think he looks a little slow & gets beat a lot. Harris is on too - he can create space & has good hands.

I don't think that he's anywhere near his 6'1 listed ht on Scout. Rivals has him at 5'10 175 and looking at him next to Harris 175 might be generous.

I don't think you are looking at the right guy. His Rivals profile lists him as 6'2", 183 and he is significantly bigger than Cliff Harris in those clips:

Many view him as more of an outside linebacker prospect once he fills out. If the Ducks feel he doesn't have the speed or might outgrow the safety position, I hope they don't pursue him. They don't need another linebacker in this class.
