Kilkenny Court
Just announced that the main court in Mathew Knight Arena will be named Kilkenny Court.
I have no problem with the name, I just wanted to see "the pit" brought to the new arena.
They might still do "the pit" in the paint like it currently is.
Thoughts?

Since he donated 5 million dollars, I think he is entitled to it. I would like to see it still called "the Pit" though.

No doubt it should still be called "The Pit" as the nickname since that has what it had become known as to opposing teams and fans!

The University of New Mexico's arena is also called the "Pit". Who adopted the name first?

I think that Oregon probably had it first since UNM's arena wasn't built until 1966, but I don't think I've seen when Oregon actually started calling it The Pit.ducksvb6 wrote:The University of New Mexico's arena is also called the "Pit". Who adopted the name first?

Re: Kilkenny Court
This should have no impact at all on "The Pit" nickname, assuming they want to continue with that. The court name has no bearing on it, whether it be Kilkenny Court or Mac Court.
Pat Kilkenny has been a great Athletic Director and a great contributor to Oregon athletics.

I think that as much as people want to bag on Kilkenny for not having a college degree or for just getting the job since he was a big donor, he has accomplished a lot since he's gotten here. The baseball program is up and running and the field looks good for only being about 20% done. The basketball arena is now being built instead of just being on the drawing boards. Kilkenny has shown the ability to get big projects done.VinnyKnuckles wrote:This should have no impact at all on "The Pit" nickname, assuming they want to continue with that. Re: Kilkenny Court
Kilkenny has done exactly what he was brought in to do...start a baseball program, get the facilites for baseball and hoop built and keep the seat warm for MB until he was ready to take the job. He was the perfect choice for the job based on the goals of the department. I'd be happy naming the main court after him even if he hadn't donated a cent!

Suppose that 5mil will be used to fire EK and bring in the new guy? Fat chance since Pat seems to say he likes him.
