Players like Cavaille & Showalter likely have conditional schollies meaning they are "on" and get financial assistance for some periods. Since both will likely be on our roster come Fall due to being SRs, they could get schollies, but very doubtful given the numbers. Flint went on schollie during '08, but he's not a shoe-in to keep it if Padilla wins the place kicking job. SUBTRACT 2
I believe the coaches know of a few who will fall in the TRANSFER/LEAVE SCHOOL/ACADEMIC FAILURE category already. Don't know who they are or will be, but figure on a few here. SUBTRACT 2
My guess is 1 player from our class will be asked to grayshirt. Hard to say who it will be, but hoping it isn't necessary as that player can resign with another school. Players like Hawkins or Arden come to mind here. SUBTRACT 1
So, with Vinny's count of 88, lets be optimistic and add in Gaines & Tuinei to bring it to 90. Subtract the 5 above and we're dead on the total. Obviously if Brown wants to come we'll somehow make room, but not bullish on that possibility. Furthermore, if a player like Chris Metcalf suddenly becomes a Duck in the next few wks (esp if prior to Gaines & Tuinei), that's a sure indicator that the staff believes at least 1 of those JC WRs isn't coming. Personally I don't see Metcalf signing as many feel things will likely get worked out with SC or we just don't have room. Very good player, but not a big need.
