too much worrying. conditional schollies, possible greyshirts, and most impotantly attrition. this happens every year.
we could get the 2 wrs, brown and metcalf and we'll still be fine. i have no idea on who, but i'll bet 2 to 3 are nicely asked to leave
(like kempt, truelove, etc...) and i'll bet 2 to 3 end up academically ineligible or are forced to leave for other reasons (like Garrett, Jones, Peppars). We always attrit at least 5, we always do.

Isn't Lane a Baseball player, and if so what are the prospects of him coming in under a baseball schollie? Horton must have a few openings from last years signing.

Lane has to receive a schollie for the higher revenue sport... In this case, football.
For reference, when Jordan kent played football, after having spent 2 years with the basketball program, his schollie was transferred from the basketball program to the football team, per NCAA rules.

I believe the schollie counts towards the sport that takes place first during the school year. Higher revenue doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter the revenue it matters what the scholarship limits are. Football 85 > Baseball 35? If Lane were to be a basketball/baseball player then it would count as baseball.

No, I'm pretty sure wounded is right. It's determined by the higher revenue sport

Nice post Vinny.
I'm too busy to read through all the posts, so someone probably mentioned this:
Expect players to transfer, recruits to not qualify, and other player/recruit problems to happen. It's typical to lose a few players/recruits every years because of these reasons.
So don't stress having 88 players right now. The coaches know what they are doing.

If Lane plays Football and Baseball at Oregon, he will count against Football Schollie limit.

Can't some of the players be on half scholarships. so get two players with one scholarship. i know that baseball does that.

In certain sports that have limited scholarships (like baseball and track & field), the coaches are allowed to give out portions of the scholarships depending on need and several other factors. In basketball and football, the NCAA guidelines state that you have to give out the full scholarship to one player. This limits schools from stacking rosters by giving partials to lots of players.Maxxwell32 wrote:Can't some of the players be on half scholarships. so get two players with one scholarship. i know that baseball does that.

VinnyKnuckles wrote:I agree. Having 13 receivers under the scholarship at one time, which is what it would be if Gaines, Tuinei and Lane all make it on to the roster next season (not a given), is simply too many. That wouldn't even be counting Hawkins, who could potentially move to WR at some point. I think 11 is actually the optimum number, which is why I felt getting 3 receivers in this recruiting class would be ideal. Overloading the scholarships at a particular position like that is partly why the Ducks will have so few scholarships available to give out next year.ghetarr2007 wrote:11, potentially 12 or 13 WR's sounds excessive to me.
Hopefully the Ducks' recruiting can get to the point where they bring in consistent numbers of recruits at positions across the board each year. This will prevent having to overload on a position in a particular class since you struck out there the year or two prior, and thus prevent the subsequent mass exodus of players at a particular position when those players become seniors. A prime example of this is the offensive line this year. Six scholarship offensive linemen graduated this year, which is far more than ideal. There are going to be a few more question marks on the offensive line next season than one would like because of it. Greatwood has acknowledged this is a problem and has mentioned that he wants to break the cycle of overloading on offensive linemen in an individual class so it is more evenly distributed across all the classes. It is ridiculous that the Ducks won't have a single scholarship offensive lineman that is a senior on the roster next year.
Sorta like the BB team this year.
