Five Super Sleepers 2009

A few that stick out for me...... not necessarily sleepers, but those that could possibly contribute early. Thoughts?

Arden, Keaton DL
Cole, Nick WR
Harris, Cliff CB
Lane, Braxton WR

Wow, I have to question the football knowledge on this to have Arden, Lane and Cole as early contributors, wow.

Going off of film, what the coaches said & in Cole's choice, he's worked both sides of the ball. I don't base anything on the star rating system, so I try to look at them independently. Since they're all freshmen, maybe they all redshirt, but the question was tossed out there and it's just an opinion. I could have easily picked Benyard too. Also, I didn't say they would be locked into the current positions they are listed in either.

So are you an Oregon Coach or know all of the kids personally to warrant my opinion worthless?

I remember MB saying at one point that Taylor was challenging Syria for his starting spot. I would bet Tim Taylor is the guy next year.

Taylor will definitely be given a chance. Punting is one area where it is very easy to determine which player is performing the best during practices. Things like get-off time, hang time and distance are all easily quantifiable. If Taylor performs the best, he will be the guy.

Braxton Lane might not even show up to Oregon if he gets drafted and see other comments on Cole.
Nick Cole will be redshirted he is not going to contribute over Drew Davis, Jackson, Harper, Maehl, Dion Jordan...
Arden redshirt....He is not playing over the JC guys or Celotto, Rowe, Tukuafu, and Dominic Glover

I don't think Jackson Rice is a sleeper. Every single duck fan that follows recruiting expects him to start for us...

I think Nick Cole is definitely a sleeper. His team went undefeated and went up against Diante Jackson's team in the championship.

I like how much up-side a lot of these recruits have. I think any one of them could step up and earn playing time by the end of the year.

But, the one I have my dollars on is Terrance Montgomery. Him having a 3 year old and being in the Army, I guarantee that he's way ahead in maturity and focus. His is already an inspiring story. I just have a feeling that he'll be a break-out guy.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm also a father.

I like how much up-side a lot of these recruits have. I think any one of them could step up and earn playing time by the end of the year.

Wheaton, you are so right. I think he is special to the coaches as well. Whenever I've heard anyone mention him, it's obvious they have a lot of respect for him and are anxious to get him on the field. He's taken a tough road to get where he's at and that does not go unnoticed. Honor means a lot & I think he'll do well.

Raising a family is hard enough, without the added distraction of school and football. Navigating that path is a huge testament to Montgomery's character.

Where I come from, the husband and wife work together as a team, so I definitely concur.

Plus im not the biggest fan of talmaldrige jackson III, as you all know he started for the injured thurmound during the Boise St game, and kellen Moore picked on him all day long, jackson didnt do so well, with the exception of 1 pick, and Moore threw for 400 plus on us.

Also what does our starting LB core look like next year?

Our LB core is absolutely stacked, I expect all of this year's incoming LB's except for Bryson to RS and get the opp to gain weight/speed.

Gaines (assuming he gets in)
will all produce this year

If I had to pick one name that comes out of nowhere to be a beast I pick Lewis or Johnson to get the call at safety/rover and be big time in place of Chung.

Harris looks great but don't forget about (6'1") Anthony Gildon I think its his spot to lose this off season with TJIII coming in on passing downs while Harris RSs to get bigger and learn the defense! The coaches are very high on Gildon and they got to RS him, I believe, so he's healthy and ready to go...

Thurmond and Byrd weren't true freshmen when they started. Both were RS Freshmen.

talmaldrige?... lol... as for TJIII and the boise state game, everybody and their mother were picked on all day during that game, it wasn't just him.

And its Casey Matthews, not Clay.

If I'm not mistaken Gildon wasn't progressing like the coaches wanted him to and that's why he was redshirted.
